episode 1 actual vs episode 2 bucket list

    There are numerous important aspects of a RPG gaming experience. Some are in the game already, some are slated to be in the game by the time it goes live and some have been marked as bucket list for post episode 1 goodness.

    Does anyone have a list of the items that have been "probably not for Episode 1" and "yeah we're putting that in Episode 2"

    An example comes to mind. The skill thieving has been said to be an Episode 2 feature and not Episode 1.

    We should keep track of these somewhere, unless it is in an obvious place Captain Jack can't find!



    Episode 2+
    1. Skill - Thievery
    2. Items - Weapons - Non-stock standard RPG weapons
    3. Mounts - Horses (unless stretch goal is reached)
    4. NPCs Non-Pet intelligence level Robust NPC Companions
    5. Housing - Boat Houses as usable boats (unless stretch goal is reached)
    6. Player Characters - Elves as a playable race (unless stretch goal is reached)
    7. Housing - Flexible lot placement for houses (unless stretch goal is reached)
    8. Inventory Management - Pack Animals (unless stretch goal is reached)
    9. SPOff - Time advancement via sleep/camp
    10. SPOff - Dynamic Hex Updates
    11. SPOff - NPC Tasking(fetching things from Online vendor)
    12. SPOn - NPC Companions

    Episode 3+


    Episode 4+

    I share your thoughts on a bucket list for the second installment Captain, I have been thinking of making a sticky thread on this very same subject, but now that the good Captain has brought it up, it's as good a time as any for it.

    Starr Long has previously said that articulated weapons i.e. whips, chains, nunchucks, morning glories, rope, etc...etc... are slated for episode two.

    How is it on the ship and pirating front? When are sea battles planned? I suppose the "Rum Bottle of Prosperity" is due at the earliest in the second expansion?

    Undead as a playable "race".
    I don't mean playing a lich, skeleton or ghost (although that would be interesting >.< ), my take on playing undead is that we play 'ourselves' with the exception that while traveling through the portal to New Britannia, we 'died' and enter as a dead avatar, an undead avatar!

    Since thievery is already Episode 2 or post, and moveable house boats are Episode 2 or post, Piracy looks pretty poor! Not only that, but the stretch goal is so basic, at this point in time it doesn't really appear Captain Jack would get a ship even if it is met, because he doesn't own a house boat. Are ships limited to house boats???


    Interesting ideas, though Captain Jack would rather keep the list to things the Devs have directly addressed either directly or indirectly through stretch goals for the moment!

    I feel it would be a mistake to move thievery to episode 2.

    If only it were a simple matter. Schedule + budget = some things wait. It does seem like an odd thing to put off but at this stage we may well be looking at a half-baked rushed feature now vs. well made feature later scenario.

    All of the stretch goals (Flexible Placement, boats, Elves, pack animals and mounts)

    Episode 3
    Expanded companion system
    Group finder system
    Mod tools

    Episode 4
    Taming/riding a flying dragon
    System to integrate the best player made mods into the game

    Episode 5
    Cross-license Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Marvel comics.

    I fear putting it off will result in the same half baked feature, as the players waiting to play a thief will likely have moved on by then and there will no longer be a drive for such a feature. Plus, its a set of rules worth looking at before launch for the very same reasons you have to look at pvp before launch.

    There will always be a drive for such a feature. :) Remember a prime design goal is that players will be able to explore all skills with one character. Whether it be respec (let's not get started) or some other method.. plus each new EP will bring in more players.

    The OP list is all MMO functions minus maybe the thief, I honestly hope they do better then that.

    Getting the companions to work as traveling companions in online is not in scope for Ep 1 but things like pets, summoned creatures, and tamed creatures can fill those gaps in online
