Myrcello thats a great idea. More story more immersion the better.

This suggestion is a must... Most games that are RPG style and have a overworld utilize something like this..

There is so much that could be done with it, hope to see them get pegged for implementation.

On a similar thought, I think we should have a better chat system in place on the OW... In this very rough drawing you can see your party member portrait and be able to chat and do some fun things related to your group and roleplaying.
Say something like be able to get a unique group buff after camping and resting. The leader would have more control of the whole group and the other party members can fill support roles.

Party member can do some things like alter outcome of encounters - Luck/Charm/Magic/Blink even...

Some player with hunting tracking can enhance the chance to find good animals to hunt. Can increase the range of view.. Can travel faster over rough terrrain..

All sorts of fun stuff here.

hi its working on my phone. try to see if you can follow the link directly?.

Its really nothing special just a scratchy paint thing I did in 30 seconds.

I used a light contrast chat with rpg style portrait for group members.

Yep, although instead of darkness, I think they could probably make it work naturally by just increasing the "fog" from atmospheric perspective that's already there. And in certain instances, like in forests, or wherever else there needs to be tighter boundaries, zooming in a bit more.

Love it. Great feedback. Lots of options to build upon.
Quite easy to implement and expand.
You sire, don't get a cookie, no, you get a whole apple pie just for yourself.

So the "Get Rid" part is already in.
If you go to settings you can have an auto-hide hotbar toggle. I have it set always.
That means that I only see the hotbar when my mouse is in that area. (Like when in overland view...)

To the OP youve done such a great job with this, simple and effective I nominate you to continue your efforts for the overland.

Can you do so more examples?

what about a menu choice for different areas?
    different entey points
different destination like going directly from Kingsport to Ardoris
    Camping options
    Dungeon situations
Hunting encounters where you seek high quality prey?
    river boat traval
    entering a temple area
    etc

It is easy to make suggestions without knowing how much work is behind it. :D

I'd like to think that what most of these suggestions are not a lot of work in the grand scope of things.

I think it's far more work, and maybe what you were really getting at Myrcello, to change what has already been done. But luckily not much has been done to the overworld so hopefully the developers will be able to discuss this and maybe implement some/most of it. After all usually knowing what to make with a good blueprint is the key to building anything complex - so as to avoid redoing work which could have taken up a huge amount of time. We just saved the devs a whole lot of work!

    It's interesting, nice thought...

I'm on the fence about the "options" for this. To be a sandbox game of sorts we have to have choices and options, but they should be more along the lines of "do I want to do this or that", not "do I want this or that to work differently for different people?". (do you get what I mean?)

If it would end up optional, then there should be some type of possible reward for those who take them, as well as some possible risk for skipping them as well.

I sort of see where you going with this, however this isn't a strictly sandbox game. It's a story based game with some sandbox elements.

I actually like this concept myself, and I think it improves vastly the overland experience, although the box could be a bit smaller :p I think a simple option of enter or skip would suffice

The single player will be story based, but the multi will be more the story we make of it with our communication and interaction with the world and others.

Even if there is an actual story built into the multi-player part, and I believe there will be, I personally most likely will not pay attention.

@ OP: I love the idea. The added immersion could do wonders. Although, I do like the idea of having some small percentage chance random encounters that we're never given the chance to avoid, ala being taken by surprise, etc.

I like this idea. Like you have the option to run (just like in the scene), but it is only a random chance that you will get away.

I don't see why multiplayer can't be moments both created with other players but using the strong lore of the story to tie it all together. I wouldn't ignore one for the other.

No encounter should be 100% escapable unless it is a non combat encounter(traveling salesman or whatnot).
