A quick update on harvesting skills!

The devs would do well to get in here and tell them to stop, because people are already freaking out ingame about this.

This guy here states the devs have already nerfed the tools, he's not making suggestions -

 

I didn't say they would make them crappy, I just said that simply giving them a +1 to all skills would be the absolute crappiest way to go about it without setting of the riots from the other side of the discussion (pay to win). Realistically, I could see +5 to all related skills a way to make it usable and not too OP when compared to similar items that can be obtained in game. I left the whole upgrade thing alone because they haven't even made these work properly in game yet, much less revealed how that whole mess will work.

What did you think you bought??? Your screenie shows the "promised" state of the tool when you bought it, not what they are going to deliver on in the end. The crafting landscape has gone through some serious flux since those tools were first put in the store, and they haven't updated what it will do since.

As for "are these guys above for real?", all I mentioned was the quality thing (which they have said they strayed away from in various posts and dev chats), and theorized on ways they can still actually meet the promised effects with a very simple addition to the tool's properties.

 

People suggest things as insane as removing the entire framework and starting from scratch or NOT having fishing, doesn't mean it is going to happen. I am not sure why player suggestions would induce panic >.>

 

Like I said, that guy above has stated the devs have already nerfed the tools. I think it's right to be panicking at this point.

I don't see why it would be an issue anyway, if things like this can be crafted. What is the problem?

They can't charge $135 + for a set of tools that don't do anything more than the 2 gold tools do, except not break.

There will be riots.

And we'll all want out money back, not just store credit.

 

You seem to be having a problem with understanding what you are reading.

I NEVER said the devs are nerfing the tools.

What I said, is that one of the properties of the tools (yielding better quality materials) is not going to be functionally viable in the terms it might imply. For instance, you have been harvesting iron ore, or maple wood... they have stated that they aren't putting higher quality materials in the game already, and so you haven't seen something like rich iron ore, or quality maple wood. The closest that I have seen is the raw cotton that looks the same as it's lower value brother, raw cotton, but is worth 200 gold per boll. Even some of the items that might seem to be higher quality (maple heartwood) are the result of recipes that refine maple wood into that item.

And to be perfectly honest, even the +1 to all related gathering skills is essentially like adding 5 levels to your current crafting level for that craft or gathering skill, and so isn't a very cheap way to add to the tool if you think about it.

Is this where I tell you to grab you pitchfork and torch... because they might do something more than the 2 gold tools do, but they really DON'T do anything more than tools you will be able to craft yourself...

How so? have you not looked at the chart and seen what adding +5 to those skills will do for you? Does it allow you to harvest fasster? yes. Does it provide more quantity? A greater chance than someone without it, yes. Does it provide greater quality? Not in the base material, but it does in the added materials harvested, as they aren't adding higher quality versions of the base materials to the game.

 

Nono i don't care about the actual number, as long as they are high end tools (yet not the highest), indestructible and pretty i am perfectly happy heh. TBH i dont think they ever should have been for sale, but since they were and people bought them i don't want to see them end up less than what they were meant to be is all.

 

I hear ya... I am planning on buying all three packs as soon as I have some spare cash, pretty much only because I love the way they look! However, it is difficult for a tool to deliver on something that will not exist (higher quality versions of the base ores) unless they are meaning it will yield you higher end materials from lower end nodes (finding some silver mixed in with your iron, for instance).

Excellent -- I noticed something about Moon magic workin better at night which gave me some ideas about harvesting to spice things up:

--Perhaps some nodes that glow so you can find them easier at night but are near impossible to find during the day. If you douse your torch, you'll even find them more easily. But in all that darkness... come the creatures. ANNNND it just so happens, some creatures have glowing eyes which resemble the node. Muahahhaa.
