The only way that one can achieve order is through control, and people who are controlled have no freedom. What they have is safety, but it comes at the cost of conformity, oppression and misery. Only those who embrace Chaos can enjoy true freedom. Freedom to be different, freedom to innovate, freedom to be passionate and freedom to determine one's own future.

 

Those who seek control very much like chaos, as long as they can use it to their advantage. They want to harness the petty fears and hatreds of others in order to control them. And they want to harness the loves and joys they hold dear to impassion them, as they hold these things out as being threatened and under attack. Is that not what Father Aquila has sought -- to use fear and hatred to justify the death of Amber Raine ? With the audacious claim that if she didn't die, the world would run rampant with chaos and everything they loved would be destroyed ? Or, if he didn't expect her to die, he still wanted to use the spectacle of the fire to impassion others into his cause.

Having fear and hate for the sake of overcoming it, or having joy and love for the sake of having it, is kind of soulless. Each of these things need meaning and purpose, otherwise the emotions are empty -- sound and fury signifying nothing. Its not the feelings themselves that are important.

But empty emotion drives both sides into war with each other -- both Order and Chaos.

How can anyone find themselves at war with an abstract concept, I don't know.

 

No true great leader was ever truly safe and comfortable

Greatness rises from the uncomfortable trying to gain that comfort
Greatness comes from changing that which has grown too cozy
Great leaders rise from the debris left in a quake of misery.
Great inventions are created from a need to make something better..
Great Ideas are imagined for all things to happen..

Brothers and Sisters,
First, I want to thank everyone who came to the Order Sermon. It was a lot of fun and I really wanted to start with a bang. Special big thanks to Amber and her followers – without you, there really was no show. The contents of the sermon kicked up a few issues which I hope to address now.

1 – Setting the High Priestess of Chaos on Fire.
Amber was never in any danger. I know very well that a few flames are no threat to High Priestess. I understand some of you took offense to this. My intention was to shock. Out of Chaos the Church of Order is born. But what Order you ask… more on this later.

2 – War between Order and Chaos.
Yes, I did encourage it. I have traveled in many lands and any peace between Order and Chaos was always temporary. I am an Order veteran that has fought wars against Chaos across multiple shards. This is my history.
Lord British asked that peace between Order and Chaos be pursued. As my sovereign and Lord I oblige. I wish to put on record that Duke William also advised me against war. Kazyn and Amber also advised me against committing any actions that would instigate war. The decision I took was mine alone.
I therefore propose a conference of peace to be held at a time of the High Priestess of Chaos choosing, if she so wishes.

3 – The Obsidian Cloak of Order
Duke William advised me not to wear it. I thought it would be thought provoking and fun. Little did I know the power it would hold over me. I am not making excuses, but when I wear that that cloak I see Order in a very different way, if it can be called Order at all. I see a depth of beauty lost to this world, an Order which I know to be dangerous. Needless to say, I put the cloak back under lock and key and I may return to study its affect another time.

Sometimes it is the journey we seek rather than the destination.

Where Chaos creates, Chaos creates everything, both great and terrible.

Great leaders and terrible tyrants.
Great inventions and terrible abominations.
Great ideas and terrible delusions.

But Chaos needs Order to create anything at all, and Order needs Chaos.

 

Yes, Which i have always said - Multitude of anything or nothing.

And yes, they do need each other which is why i said I am for peace and not war.

Although, to be honest, right now..... I am siding with Ember more and more..

Killing something sounds like fun..

 

Chaos and order are in constant tension, like the strings on a musical instrument. It is from that tension that great things arise.

 

I would think tension between them creates war; and, instead, harmony between them which leads to great things.

 

In harmony things are comfortable and things do not change, why would they?
They are left to stagnate..
If one is comfortable there is no need to change.

It is when there is tension, when things are not comfortable, that things happen.
It could be good, it could be bad.. but things change, and do not stagnate as people choose to look for that comfort again.
Whether they find it or not is all dependant on the choices they make on their quest for comfort...

But it is tension not harmony that makes things happen.

And yes, for the record, I do believe there is still a sense of tension even while upholding peace...
Like the strings of a violin.. together they are comfortable... but there needs to be tension to make wonderful music...
one wrong pull across the string and they can *Snap*

So too is the music of Order and Chaos.

 

I think you just don't like harmony because its Order, and support tension because its Chaos. So you speak of Order and Chaos being at peace, but for you this is a disguise, because Chaos must always rule. But its an empty favoritism.

Constant change isn't creation; constant change is a description of stagnation. In constant change, no seed can ever root, and a seed that never roots can never grow.

 

Stagnation: a failure to develop, progress, change or advance.

 

Yes, constant, undirected change doesn't lead to progress or advancement.

Harmony includes directed change.

 

Serendipity is a nice word.
