We wanted a design that had ease of access to all assets of the crossroads village by all. Symmetry lends its favour to this cause. So far we are leaning towards a forest biome.

The village crescent on the bottom right caters to vendors as there is a direct line of sight to the town square. The same on the bottom left will be more seclusive. The row housing in the middle left and right is also set up to have vendors facing the 4 NPC town square.

My next attempt will have 24 row, 24 village, 9 town and 1 Keep. I'll adapt the map as our Record of Interest grows on the MGT 470 forum.

The History of Rift's End can be found on Ender's Writing Thread.

Two members of MGT 470 are also working on the music for Rift's End which I'll link (here) when it is ready.

I tried to imagine how the town would have evolved for this one. The village homes to the left of the lake are part of the old initial settlement of Avatars who loved the spot. As it became known to more Avatars an investor built the row houses on the right in order to provide housing for workers and families who would help rebuild the old ruined Keep. As the village grew the caravans that collected around the historically blown out lunar rift became permanent (NPC's). More row housing sprouted near the village center for travelers who needed a place to call home between adventures. Many of these became merchants. The bottom left along with the entrance represents the Knight Marshals and Knights who settled to help protect the village. With a Keep and extra protection came a few Lords and Ladies secreted away in the top right corner. The top left quadrant was slowly inhabited by more reclusive villagers as the space was too crowded for town homes or larger buildings. An independent faction of villagers created a merchant area in the bottom right near the wild apple orchards known to attract travelers.

The space is exactly as per a crossroads village. 24 row, 24 village, 9 town and a Keep taking up the allotted square meters. It's a forest biome with a lake and some low hill areas to break up the lines of sight.

I vote for V2! Superb work Kvow, keep um coming. Your V2 took several comments from several members into account in a very short time.

Will PoT scenes be big enough to fit all that empty space, though? Most of the towns seem to basically just be big enough to fit the houses, with a few extra feet around the edges.. Also curious about that, for town design purposes.

    I just thought of this...

Will POTs be walled, like a properly defensible medieval community? Or will they just be a biome instance peppered with different houses and buildings?

Sorry if this question was already answered elsewhere.

I suspect the area involved will have to shrink, but there is no reason the general outline, with accompanying lore, could not work out.

But then the PoT templates are not out there, and it's entirely possible that they threw together some small places for the current villages. There may be a good bit of discretion with the PoT templates, well one would hope.

No rules for this currently. Might well be a PoT template choice. Another possibility would be crafted walls and gates made possible by the flexible placement stretch goal.

I'll try to condense my next one and add more details. Thanks for pointing that out. I think we have more questions than answers when it comes to POTs.

I'm not sure anyone has the answer to this either. Will an army of Ratmen ever invade Rift's End? Hard to say if those amazing unique GM events of early UO will show up in SotA.

Extended the lake to have an inlet and outlet (sorta).
Condensed the land to reflect current housing spacing.
Eliminated some obvious symmetrical building placement to make the town appear as if it grew naturally.
    24 row, 24 Village, 9 Town, 1 Keep.
4 NPC's near the lunar rift circle of stones.

Getting pretty sophisticated there Kvow. How could they turn that down?

My suggestion to the layout of your town is to add a place which could serve as a hub, a square, a central place which will allow people to gather, if need be. You could have a bank there and a market.

I believe the direction we are headed is to utilize the Journey's End bar and tavern, and the adjacent NPC village and Circle of Stones as the meeting places of choice :)
