    Welcome, Gerry. :)

I think this was discussed at some length in earlier development. While I too have found memories of the UO system, it had more limited appeal to the wider player community. Hopefully more folks will find the level system more engaging. But that's speculation on my part.

    I'm personally good either way.

i do want a skill system like UO, but i also want levels. they can be seperate layers, and still perform well together.

Like the others posted, I'm fine either way. I think the current system shows how a combination of levels (carrot on a stick) and skill-oriented systems (trees/investing points in a variety of skills regardless of "class") can work. I don't think there's a particular issue with the current system, just that the card system is wonky at best and makes for an awkward system overall.

Personally I hate levels, it made me frown when I saw them. But I think A Ghost might be right, however much I hate to admit it. The 'wider' community, and by that I actually think it covers those who will join at launch, will get confused and lost without a poxy level number.

I am not good either way, but nothing is perfect, you have to take the rough with the smooth.

Like make levels for what in UO were the STR, INT, DEX or something? As long as levels weren't directly affiliated with skills, I could get behind that.

got the point exactly he doesn't want levels, wants to get skill points LoL, or perhaps a CELAR explanation would help .

Not much of a petition when there is NO explanation.

How about gaining skills in specific area as you use that skill, called training.

Been cover ad naseum before by many others, including myself.

    Welcom to SotA.

Im all for gaining in skills combat or crafting/gathering, by actually doing it. Heres and example so there is no misunderstanding: If i used swords and shield all the time then i should be great with swords and shields, and not Polearms!

i was thinking to the people who care less about the skills, but more about levels - joke would be on them, they got experience and a quantifiable number, but the skill system in blacksmithying still sucks. :) theyu'll be happy, and so will i, the conssumate crafter who's level 5

    No.....

Is not skill points and levels, which is what we have right now...

It is the following, amusingly enough:

Seems like he communicated fairly clearly.

    Sign me up!
The thing that bothers me with the current system is that for example by beeing a menee fighter I can get skill points wich I then put into spellcasting. I shouldnt be able to learn something by doing something else.. If they fix this somehow then I would be ok with levels.

Signed for Skills>Levels (but I'm not against levels), and becoming better in a specific thing requiring practice of that specific thing.

I'm sort of warming up to the card combat system and the deckbuilding aspects.
I'm for keeping the system as it is now (with the levels and skilltrees) solely to determine which cards you have available to build your deck with.
How good you are at using those cards should depend on how often you use them. The higher up the skill tree, the harder to increase.

If you think about it UO had indirect lvls just didn't call them levels. You had titles that you earned once you hit a certain lvl of points in a skill. So by your theory of merging the systems when you reach 50 points into swordsmanship and that unlocks x, y and z abilities. Or to take it to a no crap lvl system you can even say once you've progressed your adventuring and or combined crafting abilities to a total of x points you are now lvl 3 once you have y total points your lvl 4 etc instead of XP.

New never been done so why not pioneer it and give both sides what they want.

I would like a skill system like UO, but only if it wasn't something that could be exploited like UO. I don't want to see people standing around scripting while they're at work.
