    The town of Dead Horse

    Backstory
    The Fall
Briefly stated, the lore of the world is that a long time ago there was a world with two moons. The moons collided and debris from the collision fell upon the world destroying the surface and driving people underground. After some time, survivors emerged from underground and started to reclaim the surface.
This provides one good backstory for Dead Horse. An ancient city or town once stood in the same spot, but was destroyed in the Fall. If there are any residents of the town, they are people who have moved into the ruins and rebuilt dwellings using rubble from the ancient city.
    The Obsidians
A second possible backstory involves the ring of desolation around Desolis.
The Obsidians either triggered some sort of poisoning which has killed things in a large radius around their city, or they set off some sort of nuke and wiped themselves out. Dead Horse could have been a town destroyed by whatever this calamity was.

    Physical description
Dead Horse is a desert biome. It should be decorated with rocks, ruined buildings, tumbled down walls, broken statues, or anything else that would look like scattered debris from a destroyed city. If unclaimed housing plots can be populated with broken things too, that would be great. There ought to be a water source. I don’t really care if it’s a river, creek, or spring. Whatever makes sense, depending on where the town is placed.

    Housing
There ought to be one keep plot, one city, one town, and a couple of village plots. Whatever housing space remains can be filled with whatever fits.

    NPC Building or Monument
I intend to use this town as the location of a geocache. If a geocache type chest can be placed in the scene somewhere, I would be happy with that being my NPC building or monument.
If a geocache thing is not possible, then I’ll take a Tavern. Travelers have to rest somewhere.

You should name the inn the "House of Many Forum Arguments". =P

The barkeep's thing should be that he always brings up the same subject over and over, "not to beat a dead horse, but..."

    (I smell a sitcom!! :D)

My desire for a geocache chest does not fit into the town submission form in its current state.

If I choose an alternate of a Tavern, I then have blanks to fill out for NPC names and appearance.
That makes it look like I don't want a geocache chest.

So, I chose a hooded statue as an alternate.

I'm going to be pretty far down the list of towns to build, so I'll keep checking back to see if the form changes, and templates appear.

Frank, I am pretty much in the dark in terms of geocaching in games. How would that work? Do we get treasure maps in game and have to hunt down treasures and such? If so that would be awesome. :)

You didn't explain why it's called Dead Horse... I'm sure that's an interesting story... maybe some necromancy involved?

With my account I get two land deeds. The current plan is to have a vendor at my keep sell a book for 1 gold that will have clues that lead to my village plot in some far away location. At the village plot will be another book or map that leads to a location in Dead Horse (which may or may not appear on the map), and a chest which will contain a collectible coin or something else worth having. Hopefully, there will be a geocache chest, which would limit how many things you can take. You must put something in to take something else out, or some such rule. We don't yet know what tools Portalarium will give us, but we know they're working on something like that.

I wanted a desolate, ruined place of the past.
Originally, it was going to be called Serenity Valley, a hat tip to the show Firefly, but a similar name was already being used by somebody else.
I'm not a very creative person, so I turned to famous names of old Western towns for inspiration. Tombstone and Deadwood had the right vibe.
Then I tried to think of something along those lines while browsing the forums, and Dead Horse came to mind.

    Mos Eisley

is the first name that comes to my head thinking of a desolate, ruined place of the past within a desert.

call it Dead Eisley ( if you need inspirations)

I would then open a Tavern and call it The Chalmun´s Cantina. Grin. :)

You should make a pilgrimage to Deadhorse, Alaska. Sort of a rite of passage for those who live in Alaska or at least as far as the Yukon to take a pee in the river.
