Off Topic Subforum

Is it possible that our merry band of gaming nerds could have an off-topic subforum to discuss such random but critically important things such as:

• Donald Trump's contributions to society (OK brief thread, but still)
• Uber: Uber or not so Uber?
• How to punk RG next time you visit Austin
• Over/Under on number of Royal Babies
• Brushes with Greatness - who is the most famous person you've peed next to? (Lee Iacocca) Pumped gas next to? (Jimmy Buffett) Slept with? (Elizabeth Hurley. OK it was a picture of Elizabeth Hurley).

OR

Is this just a terrible idea that will destroy the very fabric of the SOTA society that's been built here the past couple of years?

 

This is long overdue and overlooked. I've frequently felt like I couldn't/shouldn't post non-SotA topics due to the lack of a specific place to respectfully do so. Sometimes you just want to shoot the @$&! about random stuff that others might be interested in, but there's no good place to really dedicate to that kind of chatter.

 

I think it's probably easier to moderate when you limit the chat to a single topic and much prefer on topic discussion, if implemented though it needs to be excluded from the What's New? filter.

 

I like this idea! Maybe something like a Player's Lounge.

 

This is a terrible idea! Mostly because I have not peed next to anyone important. I did pee off Mount Rushmore though. It's a $50 fine if they catch you beyond the boundaries BTW. Totally worth it.

 

This is neither overdue or overlooked (though it is often requested). The purpose of these forums is to assist with, participate in, and promote the development of Shroud of the Avatar. Thus, an off topic area is counterproductive to that purpose.

anyone read the book called Ready Player One, by Ernest Cline?

what i loved was how they played homage to just about all aspects of gaming, with SEVERAL references to both UO, RG, and other items in there like Fyndoro's Tabulet of Finding and this tidbit is even linked - i just noticed, in the patron pledge reward info page

there were so many points in that book, i just got all nerdhappy when i recognized an obscure, or not so obscure reference in the book. great fun to read!

There are also community sites where off topic discussions can happen. Might I suggest The Pub over at the Avatars Circle forums?

 

I thought the Kitchen was a place for people to contribute recipes that might be included in the game.
And the Library is a place for SotA related fan fiction.

The Game Room appeared when people were continually talking about other games on this forum, rather than on the other game's forum. But I agree that the Game Room is off topic.

 

I peed next to Paul Mcdermott, he was pretty drunk.

 

It may not be overlooked, but it is certainly overdue. What if I buy you a shiny new castle and let you pet my dragon?
