I want to run events in my town where I 'hide' a Public Chest somewhere in the terrain.

The way I have to do that now is by using a Village Lot Marker, then a Village Deed, then place the Public Chest.
However that removes all trees and such. Which means I have to deco using addon store trees I borrow from friends to get it to look good again.
    *sigh*

So could we please get Public Chests added to this list:
Just 1 or 2 is plenty.

This would really help us with a lot of emergent game play and player quests, including actual geocaching in the terrain.

    Thank you

Yeah, I suggested they make Cache Chests Cache Chests and not simply house deco chests. I found a Cache Chest one time. W/out any tools, I found it by simply wandering the desert, it was in the middle of nowhere buried under twigs in next to the trunk of a tree on the top of a cliffy hill. That's where Cache Chests should be, not on someone's porch. Garriott himself has a IRL Cache Chest hidden on his property somewhere. It isn't on his porch, it's hidden, that's the point of Cache Chests.

There's a freeshard that used the treasure chest script and altered it to be a Cache Chest script. W/ this script you can bury the Cache Chest *anywhere* on the map, literally anywhere as long as you have a shovel (zero skill required). Within a 9 square area if you dig where a Cache Chest is it will pop up and unbury itself. All Cache Chests can be re-buried using the shovel again. Giving Cache Chests great awesome value and purpose and the ability to be used as an actual hidden Cache! Short of something like this and I'm afraid I'll never be interested in the current bizzaro-psudo-cache-chests-that-are-only-good-for-boring-games-resembling-house-to-house-hopping-scavenger-hunts House Hopping Scavenger Hunting *is not caching, nor does it resemble ge0-caching or caching in any way shape or form excepting the type of caching you might see on the TV show Preppers (dude had a cache of cheap vodka in his basement)*

That would be amazing. Creating our own treasure maps and hunts for events.

Will do more since they seem appreciated. But it would be so much nicer if one could place the Public Chest directly.
    :p

I would get a public cache or three if this were the case.

In R21 you can buy them for 20 000 gold on top of the Owl's Head bank.

They are less ornamented than the ones in the add on store but it works just the same.

I somehow missed this thread back in September. I like the idea of making public cache chests operate as PoT deco items. I've posed the idea to the team for consideration. I know they have been resistant in the past to allowing containers to operate as PoT decos, but we'll revisit the discussion.

Thanks Dallas, it would make setting up events MUCH more fun and less easy for a player to game a treasure hunt event (i.e. toggle on the one or two lots not immediately with the rest of the town).

Advanced permissions would be very welcome too, e.g. access control lists: take only, put only, take and put. Also, the ability to add lists such as All-guild, all-friends, all-citizens would be very useful to any permissions lists. Perhaps even All-ignore who could be added to an explicit deny list (if that wasn't already the case?).

I know it was discussed in my B+ hangout, so there should be some notes in the transcript that I mailed in. :)

Would be appreciated, even if it is post-launch.

I see no harm in having public containers that everyone can access to be put on the POT. I think it actually opens more RP events such us pirate hidden booty, lost inheritance, or peasant raiding party, etc.
