Repetition in skill trees

    SOTA has few repetition glyphs among skill trees.

    Most obvious one is a "Night vision" vs "Light" ability.
    Basically they do the same thing and I can see how this setup could work in hard cap situation. You have to make crucial choice to follow moon or sun path, but for now you can do both (gaining DEX during a night and STR during a day :) ).

    In this situation you start to see that some skills becoming useless, repetitive or overpowered.

    Few examples:

    Heavy armor abillity "Deflection" and earth "Sympathy of stone"
    Heavy armor "Endurance" --> Tactics "Train strength"
    Those abillities are identical and if you stack them together they give advantages to heavy armor and malee weapon users over other builds. Mages and rogues doesn't have same alternatives.

    Tactics "Trip" --> Bludgeon "Knockdown" more or less the same thing. I would prefer to see more uniqe abilities overall.

    No, its not.
    With "night vision" only you can see and nobody sees you.
    With "Light" everybody can see. Especially you from a distance . Attracts PvPs like Flyes.

    Why what they did was give you the ablity to have similar attributes but learning different skills, a very good idea, what would you replace them with?
    what they have is variety of training skills that give you similar results.

    If you have your way the ONLY way to accomplish something might be a tree you don't want.

    I don't think that we need similar attributes in "soft cap" world because players can jump freely from one skill tree to another and choose what they really need.
    I gave few examples when warriors doubles their STR and deflection attributes by combining two glyphs with same effects. Mages and rogues/archers doesn't have same options.
    Maybe this is just a matter of adding more skill trees and balance it somehow :)

    Besides giving the player a choice on what skill tree to invest in, there's also a bigger issue, and that is combos (spellweaving). Right now there are few magic combos in the game, but we'll be seeing more and more over time. As it turns out, Light may make different spell combos than Night Vision.

    You can see everything that moves If you hit "N" (toggle Nameplates)

    I forgot; there already is one combo. Light + Juxtapose -> Darkness

    Looks like really useful thing.
    I hope it triggers permanent darkness :)

    Nah turns off all lights and light spells in a radius. Useful for roguish types who want to do stealth and backstabbing. Also gives a reason for people who would normally invest in Moon Magic to branch out into Sun Magic -- for a cost.

    Well, "light" is a 1lvl spell and you don't have to spend on it much.

    I was more concerned about Deflection/Sympathy of stone & Endurance/Train strength correlation.
    Light and Night vision was just an example for similarities in skill trees.

    Ooo darkness. I attack the darkness with magic missle!

    Now I have to get home and try out darkness...

    not from a distance.

    And if your stealthed, noone can see your nameplate, but that can see a super bright light orb on you from clear across an entire scene.
    Night vision allows you to see without giving yourself away
