Thou dost notice a mysterious stranger staring at thee from a dark corner. He beckons.

It's just dreaming, I think the locale you chose makes the most sense - there is no serious expectation methinks. For me the ideal HoBNortH would be Ontario and other it would be elsewhere!

It's a sad fact that Austin is 2600km away but then Vancouver is some 4600km so that's not really any better :p

Very close. The important bits are done on my development server. I still need to write the code that notifies me when someone has registered and create a tool for me to approve/disapprove registrations and have everything update and notify accordingly. I also need to make a page that gives instructions on how to send admission fees and then, of course, the entire quest submission and display code but that bit can come later. I'm going to hit it hard this weekend.

I meant no disrespect earlier in my postings Rustic. I wish you the best and hope you have wonderful gathering. I just hoped that there would be something that was not centered around the austin area for some of us. Thats why I said I would be in favor of a HoblothNOrth! :)

I dont know if I could draw all the portelarium employees that some people can. I would love to have an event were richard and other showed up. I dont think its possible outside the Austin area sadly. The people in the Austin area are blessed with the ability to converse with said people. Unfortunately I am a not one of that crowd.

Mr G is in New York most of the time. All you need to do is come up with something creative and I'm sure he would grace it, besides it is more about connecting with gamers Captain Jack would think. There are some connected people in Austin, but if you don't try you'll certainly never win. Go, win friends and influence people!

aye, this mate understands you. It is the wishes of my brain that I stay true to myself and not covet, therefore I will take leave from this thread as it derails true and honest people. People that are belonging and deserving. I shall take my leave..

Ravicus Domdred, I completely understand the desire! I personally live in the Wisconsin/Illinois area, and while I happen to have the wherewithall to make a trip to HoBLotH happen this year, a HoBNorth would be fantastic!

Just ruminating here, but considering HoBLotH is themed after Buc's Den (loosely), it would be really cool to get a piece of land set up for HoBNorth and theme it after Yew, for instance.

Somewhere recently someone posted that the attendance fees should be in proportion to the number of days a player is attending. While I considered this idea initially, please let me explain why this logic is flawed:

This year, admission is $100, which is half of last year's price. Admission fees go toward beverages, food, LARP weapons, props, site fees, and other fees such as V.I.P. travel reimbursement and/or performer's fees.

Suppose a person is only attending one day instead of all five and because of this, this person believes that they should only pay $20. Well, here's the problem...

Aside from the fact that attendees are strongly encouraged to attend as much of the event as possible (otherwise, what's the point? The HoBLotH is a LARP event, not a meet & greet), that person would likely come on Saturday because of travel convenience and because this is the day when most or all of the special guests (e.g. Richard) would be present. This also happens to be the day of the main catered feast. This person would still use one of the LARP weapons I had to order for the event. This person would still receive a journal, cloth map, and other event trinkets, despite only attending a single day. This player would still be eating the catered feast and drinking the beverages. Simply stated, the difference in cost to me between a person attending Saturday only vs. the entire event is marginal. That is, it doesn't save *me* any significant amount of money for a person to attend less days. Given that, there's no way I could reasonably let people pay less for attending less days.

That being said, people with any kind of financial distress have always been (and still are) encouraged to register anyway. Sometimes exceptions are made for folks who really should come but can't afford it.
