I can only say at first, absolutely not, because that's just not the business model they're using, but then I recall subs in certain F2P games that give you store credit and xp boosts and things.

Maybe there's something to this idea?

I like it. But if it would be just for items in the add-on shop, count me out. I already have all the add-ons I want and would not like to donate money that I would feel compelled to spend on items I have already decided against. However I love the unknown. If the subscription bought a surprise item, unique and unavailable elsewhere (not just color), I am all in.

Yeah a unique, surprise item each month was what I had in mind in the OP. Have it so once it's revealed you can't decide to 'sub' and get it otherwise you would get folks subscribing for just the better things that they liked.

You choose to sub a month at a time and everyone who is subbed gets the item that is revealed but if you aren't subbed when it's revealed you can never get it. Nice incentive to keep your subs rolling over. Then (like in UO) you could choose one item from a group of items at 6, 12, 18 months subbed etc

One month you might get an emote, one month you might get a replenishing cake, one month you might get a hat (sorry), every now and again put something special out to pique peoples interest.

If this was in place I would literally never 'unsub' even if I wasn't playing for months or years.

I never knew SC did anything like this. If CR is doing it then it must be a decent idea.

They stopped the Tour Guide quests so they could devote time to making the game.
Let's not divert time saved to an additional feature that will further delay the game.

I agree completely, Sir Frank, and it's good to specifically cite what I had assumed. I would support this, should the team decide it was a worthy cause, post Launch. (Not to be confused with post Wipe)

if you think sbout it, a lay-away plan for a high level pledge is almost the same thing as a subscription.

you pay $10 a month for about 4 years. you get citizen level rewards

10 bucks, 1000 people. Do the math. You can get some programming skills for that Money

Keep in mind that in StarCitizen every perk, every little item a subsciber gets, is also available in game for people to get through simply playing the game.

Please dont compare this "if you pay, you get something unique" to SC's "we thank you for your contribution but remember you can get evertyhing in game". Thats two different pair of shoes, completly. Further in SC that money is used to make a lot of stuff besides of development for the backers...like shows, monthly zines, look inside and and and...here...you get nada...you even have to think about something backers would get yourself...and the only thing that came to your mind was again...an item...a special item of course...that only YOU backers would ever get. SC is rewriting history of PC games...like creating an own engine thats able to have items 1 Million km away scale to 1m away (space Station you fly to for example)...without any instance. SotA clearly is on a completly other page since I cant get from Resolute to Highvale withóut seeing the loading screen twice and my characters feet blend through the cape I wear when I walk Forward (just like in DaoC in 2002)...and we are in 2016 ! !

    I think that:
    - coming with this idea 5 month before final wipe after 3 years of development isnt productive.
    - backers of SotA dont need a single thing to feel special compared to people that join after final wipe...they got already everything.
    - Asking to pay extra for a product you already have brought from non-existence to close-before-release through funding...is somewhat scarry.

All that is my humble oppinion of course.

    They'd never get 1000 subscribers.
They'd not hire a new person to support this.
I can almost hear the complaints of respected fellow players already.
Something to think about down the road, well after launch.

No thanks to this. I've already paid copious amounts of money toward a pledge to support 5+ years of paid membership. I don't want to be left out of some club because I, a college student, don't want to spend more money that I don't have.

I don't believe that any charge that wasn't entirely optional would ever be adopted as the development team has a record of honoring their commitments.

Complaining is the basic response to every idea the last few months.
Mind you I am not talking about you.
    Just an overall observation.
If we don't do something because x people complain about it we will never get out of pre Alpha.

We could call it complaining. I'd call it opposing additional features that delay the unfinished features already promised.
I believe Portalarium calls it an opposing viewpoint.
And we left pre-Alpha. We're in pre-release. Or is it early release? I've forgotten.

    I read 1 dissent.
Perhaps if we just make a Store item that is a Collectors Club of monthly deco items, you can opt into and out of whenever you like.
    Perhaps 1-3 $10 clubs:
    Deco Club: Monthly special deco's
Hat Club: Monthly Special hats and other fashion
    Something else Club?
