Business-wise, if OLD LEAVING < NEW INCOMING, then no issue at all.

Personally I don't see any advantage between choosing my combat targeting preference. If you like the active new targeting, choose it. If you like the classic targeting. choose it. What is the real advantage?

Also, asking this question on the first day while people are getting used to the system is going to give bad results.

Here's the old dog putting in her two barks again. I was lucky to get to try this system for some hours on QA. I do like to teach myself new tricks and I've gotten used to the reticle targeting.
I did try to use mouse-controlled movement, but went back to my regular movement keys (re-assigned to the arrow keys, because my keyboard is low and off to the side so I can support my left hand while using it.).

I press TAB during combat to be able to mouse-weave my glyphs on the command bar, but I will continue to try and move at other times with the mouse-look setting so I get used to that. I like a new challenge and expect this to be good for the game. I like changes because it keeps my old grey cells active. I understand that other folks have other preferences and habits and physical limitations, but I'm willing to adapt to new things as much as I can and I'm still having fun. So I voted "yes".

I'm not sure how this can be a new thing since I had this problem since R13.

I've yet to play with R29 but I'm sure I'm going to love it. Only a few more hours before I can go home and launch the game. I upgraded by pledged the day they implemented the free attack mode so, even if it's not perfect, I can imagine it being a massive improvement over anything we've had previously.

I'll share my thoughts soon enough.

With that said, I can understand that a click-to-move could be pretty nifty (although definitely not for me).

My opinion so far on the new system is that I really like the direction it is heading. It has made life as an archer more difficult (at least from the bit I played on QA) but I'm sure @Chris will balance that! :)

I like the new system but it does need a few adjustments please take a moment to read and improve on this system trust me it will be better this way.

    1. Have an option for first person view only even when it loads into a new scene(in third person it makes it awkward).
    2. Have a action key i recommend "r" (so we done have to go into cursor mode to open gates and talk to npc).
    3. Have an option so when we are in cursor mode as soon as we start walking it automatically takes us back into 1st person mode.
    4. For the love of all thats holy Please let us rebind sprint to the left shift key.

this is how mortal online does it and it works very well and it is not awkward at all.

Well I still don't like it, it has improved but still not keen.

    - I find the new system incompatible with the glyph system for combat which is why I still use cursor mode (tab option).
    - The new system is more akin to a first person view.....so if you like first person games you will love it (I dont......im grumpy and still love 3rd person view)
    - I don't like having to constantly move around just to keep a target.
    - Team play is somewhat frustrating (healing etc)
    - targeting is still flaky.....attack a group and you wont really know what you are targeting.....try and keep that target is a nightmare.

I vote a big fat NO........if things change I will change my vote :)

You mean you don't remember all the constant complaints stating that the combat sucked? In the forums, on Steam, or anywhere else? That's like asking for a riot to start so that you can recognize that there's a problem.

Being able to target something that you're not facing, for one thing. Or target a particular opponent that would otherwise be covered by bodies; like shooting a fireball that magically goes through a few enemies to hit the one in the back, for instance. If that can still be done, then I'd assume it would require more precision on your part.

Just that alone opens up a lot of interesting tactical scenarios that are just circumvented by the old, archaic, "56k modem friendly" targeting system.

Indeed, the classic system may need some tweaking, but many players still prefer this style. There must be a middle ground to be met.

it is funny that the FPS style is being chosen by the PvP crowd :-(

Sorry it has huge flaws, and needs a lot of tweaking to be more user friendly.

No surprise there, it was chosen because of input from the PvP crowd. Plain and simple.

As a PvPer I absolutely hate it. If I wanted to play CS or CoD then thats what I would go and do.

Indeed, I like the new system but I hope we balance the classic targeting system and give us the option to choose.

    @E n v y
Go back and look at the posts that were screaming about combat in the "old" system, and see who they were.
    Same small group.
