Exciting News for the Shroud of the Avatar Community!

One of my favorite series of books is The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant - The Unbeliever. Berek Halfhand is character in the series and ever since I saw your forum name I've been thinking to myself that you have good taste!

So imagine my surprise to find out that you are now taking over Gina's role. To which I say welcome!!

So far FireLotus has been sheltered from the boozing that goes on during hangouts and telethons. Will Berek be able to steer a hangout with a few tucked under his belt? Time will tell.

 

The more important question is, will he have each hangout a new hairstyle and colour like FireLotus?

 

She is on the telethons, but she is up in Alaska.

I hear @Berek 's interview went like this:

Starr: I see you worked with Stratics and your resume looks good.

Joseph: Hey, I'm back in the office. Do you like fart jokes and whiskey?

Berek: What?

Lum: You may also be required so sing and dance to David Bowie.

Berek: What kind of community are you running here?

Richard: What is your stance on cannibalism and killing kids in games?

Berek: Did you just say what I think you said?

Chris: Where are we going to put him? The Dippy Bird is using our last desk.

Everyone: We just got another $2,500 in pledges. Everyone do a shot!

Berek: I thought you only did that during telethons.

Starr: The secret to cramming in tons of content and features with a small team and never missing a release is to maintain the Ballmer Peak. Now, do you know how to correctly pronounce Corpions?

Berek: Are you talking about scorpions?

Chris: He'll have to work on that.

Lum: You're forgetting the important questions. Does he own birds?

Berek: You lost me at Ballmer Peak.

Welcome @Berek I play Settlers of Catan: Knights and Cities every weekend with family. Different twist but great games. Welcome in every way.

What excites me about SotA is the amazing opportunity it provides for players to create their own content.
Examples we have seen already include Avatars Radio and the Aether Vibration Amplifier, gust ball tournaments, mazes, and many other original player created activities.

The ability to purchase our own scenes (POTs) and to place some decorations outside lot boundaries (so-called POT decorations) opens up enormous possibilities for players to create their own quests.
The one thing that would help the most in that regard would be the ability to place books and notes as POT decorations. Imagine coming a cross a skeleton in a forest with a diary nearby. That could kick off a fascinating player created quest.
Unfortunately while skeletons are placeable, books and notes are still not classified as POT decorations. This restriction also stops POT owners from placing notes containing directions or other information at the spawn point of their POT.

This point was raised at 3:54:38 in the recent telethon, and hopefully that will go in sooner rather than later.

 

This is a cool idea. I just entered it into our JIRA backlog for team review.

 

Could we please also add every single chair, stool, bench, sofa, and table?

 

At LEAST the benches... fountains look so lonely without some nice benches to enjoy them.

 

It's so much easier to do outdoor events when we don't have to burn a lot deed to do so.

 

We also needs some stone benches and other stone outdoor decorations like are in the game in Varisala.

Thanks for the dessert 'ice-breaker'! I'm happy because I already friended you as a player with great contributions to the community in these forums, so I look forward to you filling FireLotus' shoes with gusto! First, I have to agree that waffle-cone is the only real cone-type to speak of.. however, I can't agree that icecream is the best choice for favorite dessert. A batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies freshly risen and still warm from the oven can't be beat. I also have a unique recipe of what I call 'peanut butter balls' which taste like chocolate cookie dough rolled up into balls, but with peanut butter.

 

I'm curious where in China you taught English. I'm teaching in Chongqing. (the spice capital and best food in all of China)

Finally, SotA:
1. Many are concerned because player names seems to have gone persistent without prior warning, when many players reasonably thought we were still in a 'testing phase' since we're still in 'Pre-Alpha'.. which means many feel they have lost their opportunity to have a name they wanted for their character.
2. With persistence coming and no 'official launch', many worry that the game will be viewed as 'basically launched' by the MMO media/community & potential player base.. which could lead to mass complaints that the game isn't finished even though it's persistent, creating a wave of renewed bad ratings on Steam etc. causing the game to be a PR failure before it even gets 'finished'. Perhaps your role will be to help find ways to ensure game media and potential players understand what to expect and appreciate the developers 'different' approach regarding this game's 'release'? I'm curious if the dev team has considered this idea that there may be a potential catastrophe looming around final-wipe which could send SotA off the rails much like 'wildstar', or if this isn't a view anyone is concerned with.
3. We use to have monthly questions from the community that would be gathered and answered on the forums, and I believe this practice stopped as development reins were tightened. Would we be able to bring this back?
