I'm new to the works of Lord British, having not played any, but having heard a great deal about them. I saw SotA and it caught my eyes, especially as I just left the last MMO I was a playing and had done some community development for. But I've already come across and issue making starting the game rather difficult. I'm on linux (Ubuntu Studio, an official Conical derivative of Ubuntu), and though the launcher launches, the game itself come to logging in, and I get the HUD, and the world doesn't generate, it's just black. When it crashes out, it's a core dump. I've reinstalled, in case the files were corrupted. I've used terminal, and I have all the libraries it's asking for. I've installed nvidia-current drivers on top of the nouveau. Sorry, I don't know where this might fit in better. Thank you, and I'm really looking forward to playing when I finally get it working.
there's quite a number of linux bugs currently, but that's not one most of us have. it's got to be something specific to your system. @Bluefire has a list of current bugs and workarounds here.
Greetings @underbutler Here's a bit of Lord British's early history which will give you some idea of how his games differ from all other MMORPG games; Those we all from some time ago, yet here our SOTA and without the influences of a restricting gaming company with their own ideas, here our creators are free to provide us all with an unrestricted gaming quality which would be impossible for them to make being under any larger company's oversight. "This is the game he always wanted to make!" I hope you enjoy being here with us, as we're just getting started Hope to meet you in game sometime... ~Time Lord~
Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll install it on a windows partition, and try the game as it is. Thanks for the video archive Time Lord, I'm going to enjoy going through that. I used to subscribe to a magazine that dealt with a lot of these things, so I might go through my collection and seek out ultima (I'm almost certain there is one there). I do love learning about old games, so thank you. Again, thank you for the warm welcome, and for the help and wishes on my linux difficulties, they are much appreciated. I'm hoping I find a nice spot in your game and community, and I hope to bring family into the fold. I still can hardly hold my excitement.
I started playing today on Windows, and I'm just curious whether I'll retain my pledge awards if I claim them now after the wipe. I assume so, since they are paid goods.
To get you started I have been working on some new player videos. You can find the playlist here with fairly descriptive titles to help you pick and choose. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLw_HS_MivFItXCQ5hYwpDjpyYNlvmBhWf Welcome aboard!
