There are a lot of issues resulting from crafting system changes.

    1. The fuels provided are clearly insufficient given the failure chances for a beginning crafter, who is presumably the target for this quest.
    2. You need to level up textiles to do the yard of cloth recipe, and that is not explained, and the mats requested and provided are inadequate to do the level up.
    3. After you're all through with the textile part of the quest, turns out it's not used in the current recipe for the final product anyway!

    Get me rewrite!

Also Edwin has quit talking to me now that I have made the 6 spools of thread and tells me he has taught me all he knows.

From my experience you have to go off and make a bolt of cloth and then he will talk to you again - sometimes.

Sadly I can't craft a bolt of cloth despite having the recipe and everything I need. The craft button is greyed out.

You need to have a higher crafting level in order to do the bolt of cotton, that's what the quest doesn't tell you. I don't recall the level off the top (20?) but you can find out by checking out the relevant recipe at vendor that sells it (I think the tailors in Ardoris or Owl's Head, but don't quote me on that.)

    @Attenwood

No he is having issue with tilling you what to make after you do the spools of cotton thread. He is also not writing in the journal.

After you talk to him when you make the 6 spools, you need to make a bolt of cotton cloth.
Then the next step I am trying to remember, I think its make leather......

    Yes it is bugged.

I found if you make a cotton thread, then you can make a bolt the button will light up but give an error of missing components.

Well I can't get him to say anything more than, "Greetings again wayfarer, I could still use your help..." I can't get him to sell to me or respond to 'help'.

Just tagging @Lum since this one seems to have slipped below the event threshold (2nd page)...

(it most likely will not be until R33 however as the changes I'd like to make are a bit out of scope for a live hotfix)

Today I managed to finish this quest, first I couldn't craft a bolt of cloth at his bench, the 'craft' button stayed greyed out even tho all materials were present. The crafting tool said 'no recipe' which is unusual as I had the recipe to click on on the left side.

I got past this stage by crafting the bolt at another station (then it worked fine)

Second bug: After finishing the bolt and being told to go and get 40 animal hides to form the yards of leather and the leather helm, quest finishes and awards XP without requiring you to actually perform the last step.

edit: turns out i had a looted leather helm in my inventory, you do not need to craft it to finish the quest.

any chance the crafting quest be changed to select what you want to make. So metal working folk choose making bars and sheets, woodworkers make planks etc...

There was also a following bug concerning the quest:

    1. I talked to Edwin, got the quest to gather 12 raw cotton.
    2. Collected the cotton and returned to Edwin. He only replied to me that "i have already taught you everything i know". So could not finish even the first step.
    3. I logged out of the game and restarted.
    4. Talked to Edwin again and the quest continues.
