To the Gentleman or Lady who owns the City sized Viking home in Solania and stored their Steampunk pets and Map Atlas in their public cache chest, I've pilfered you into a predicament.

Please reply to this thread with a short essay on the dangers of storing items in public cache chests and upon delivery of 1000 gold, I shall return your items post haste; which works out to when I get home from work at around 5pm central.

    Mine,
    Tasslehoff Burrfoot

Just in case the person does not frequent the Forums much, perhaps write a note on a paper and leave it for them in the chest in question?

Shouldn't you be able to see who owns the home?

I do, but thought it more fun to let them step forward and make themselves known with a well written public service announcement.

I hope this doesn't discourage avatars to leave doors open, as this is the big potential for player interaction.
Just make good use of your storage :)

In the Marine Corps we had a saying that gear adrift was a gift. You were encouraged to take things that were irresponsibly left out to teach a young Marine a lesson.

I did that on an Army base and nearly got brought up on charges. I was stationed at Abeedeen Proving Grounds, which has AIT, a step up from boot camp. I saw an Army guide just throw his platoon's flag on the ground and run into the mess hall to get food. I hid the flag/guide to make him sweat, but told the person working the front of the chow hall where it was.

An Army First Seargent threatened to charge me with theft of government property.

Not cool. That house was originally locked. He unlocked it so people looking at it in the addon store could tour it in game. You're teaching him not to help the community.

In point of fact, it's very cool that you/he is now hearing from me, who is willing to negotiate terms for the items return rather than remaining silent and claiming them for myself.

Essay posted in this thread and 1000gp or the clockwork K9 takes a rust nap in Spindrift Bay.

The point remains that public cache boxes default to public. You shouldn't put items in there unless you want to risk losing them. It is a valuable lesson.

How can you NOT know who the person is? You had to click on his house/door to get in and it tells you who owns it. On a side note...how many people actually feel it is their right to go into someone elses home without inviiation and just take what they want because it was unlocked......I grew up in a society and a community that did not require door locks, or to remove the keys from your car, you could even let your car outside running if you chose too.....and now...now it is viewed as an invitation if you dont lock something up. I know this is a game but it brings to mind how far we have fallen from a healthy happy society.

I don't think there needs to be a ransom or a public shaming of the person by making them write a public essay or revealing their name.

This thread alone serves as a warning to others to be careful not to lose pledge reward items.
