Ok, Imagine a large horse trough style container (About the size of the Ornate 2 Tier Wooden Display Table) with standing water inside and filled with multiple vertical Oyster cages which are half way submerged in the water.

Item name: Oyster Bed - Each cage is a separate growing node, similar to each square foot of the raised bed gardens.

Day 1: Apply (1) phial of Oyster Larvae and (1) Phial Plankton to each cage. (Fishing Vendor Items)
Day 2: Apply (1) Phial Plankton to each cage. (Fishing Vendor Items) (Cage appears more full)
Day 3: (Cage appears Full) Harvest Oysters from each of the cages.

    * Day 2 could be extended to more days to create a 5 or 7 day growth cycle depending on the yield and value of the resources produced.

    Oysters yield 2 items.
    1. Oyster Meat (1) - Used in cooking
    2. Black Pearl (Quantity to be determined by the Devs.)

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,
    -Grave

Yea... even if this were to happen... I don't think Oysters should consistently produce Black Pearls. They should more commonly produce white pearls. And maybe sometimes blue pearls. Coaxing oysters to produce black pearls should require some knowledge or work or some other conditions.

Btw, in real world lore, oysters were said to produce a darker colored pearl the stormier the weather was.

Great Points, but I would counter that there is no learning curve to grow cotton or any of the other resources in agriculture currently, plus the wild oysters only drop black pearls. This idea is intentionally simple and uses existing mechanics, so in theory would require minimal development.

Another thought occurred to me specific to this idea. There was talk amongst many players regarding raised beds, whether or not crops could be grown in basements for Row home owners or in banks for non-homeowners. I think this idea could go either direction. Portalarium could option to require the same rules specific to sunlight, "because the phytoplankton need it to live in order to nourish the Oyster Larvae" or they could support basement and bank farming of Black Pearl because Oysters filter approx. 5 Liters of seawater a day and sunlight isn't needed since the phytoplankton are being added in frequent small quantities and consumed immediately.

It would be a good way to help out the lower pledge players if we don't get public agriculture in the game immediately.

How about using Obsidian Chips as the seed for the Black Pearl?

If they made the tech then this could become an expanded concept not limited to a single type of 'farming'.

Here is an over year old suggestion of mine: (I think this was brought up on a hangout as well and everybody seemed to love it, but after that there has been nothing about the concept, which is natural since it is more of a 'after launch' thingie.

    Random idea:

Addon store - Decoration Resource object

Not just for POTs but most useful for organized communities.

Concept is a very large decoration asset which brings a resource with it.
In order to "stock" it you need to bring a resource 'seed' gathered/tamed from the wild.
Then in order to keep it 'alive' and spawning you need a craftable consumable and regular care.

    Example:

    Asset:
    RABBIT HILL
5m diameter round green hill with bushes
    Maximum population: 18
    'Seed object':
Captured/tamed rabbits from the wild. Minimum seed 4 for 'spawn'
    Consumable:
"Rabbit salad", made on Cooking station from Lettuce, Carrot and Grain.
If fed daily for a week and is at minimum seed number, spawn starts with +20% rabbits to the population.

    Asset:
    Fishing pond
    'Seed object':
Captured live fish (only a specific breed, you can't breed any fish)
    Minimum seed 4 for 'spawn'
    Consumable:
"Fish food" , made on Cooking station from Potatoes, (other) Fish, Bread.
If fed daily for a week and is at minimum seed number, spawn starts with +20% fish to the population.

    Etc.
    you get the concept.
Plants seems to be coming so that would be a different feature but some such could fit here as well.
