Is that really reportable thing? Scamming is not exploiting or anything, so what is there to report?
    It was allowed in UO.

( disclaimer: No, I don't like scamming, I don't scam, but I feel its part of the life)

I've already reported Goobi once. I guess port can ignore the complaint if they want.

Was more the case that it happened in UO and it was not effectively stopped....

In real life, you mis-sell, mislead or deceive your customers, you wind up in court, probably get fined and may if you keep on doing it end up removed from society. Same should apply here.

I don't like scams either. But what is exactly the profit margin that qualifies the sale as scam? Not even sure if it is a reportable action...

So much effort for the whole "hospitaller" thing and then we should allow scamming?!
    1. Teach the rookies how to play and earn gold
    2. rob them through scamming

    ...uhm..no!

Just keep posting the screenshots, and we all get to make a note of the names.

And Port needs to take note of accounts that make new/delete chars in order to have new names repeatedly...

Eventually, and with diligence on our part, these low-lives will cut their losses and leave.

Keep the pics coming ! ;)

Well, there is no effective ingame mechanics to deal with scammers when discovered. So, if scamming is high reward it needs high risk (of being reported and taken action against). I do not think it should be allowed, it looks like exploiting the handy renaming feature we have for something entirely else.

Problem with making scamming bannable is the fact, that its hard to define the line.

What If I sell you some weapon and I can make you feel its unique and priceless. You would pay me 500€ for it. Real price for that weapon, could be something like 50€, but I scammed you to think, its highly valuable item. Is this an offence?
What if I sell you totally meaningless item, that still looks like important and make you pay huge summ of money for it. Later you find out, its Item that vendors sell for 6gp. Is this scamming?

See, the line between good salesman and scammer is quite close sometimes, thus making it bannable requires some serious though.

Katu - that's totally scamming. you are allowed morals. Without them, you just follow the bottom line and perpetuate a class system. Profit, ok. Price gouging and deception? NOT GOOD SALES TACTICS.

I see a big FAT line between sales and scam.

Scammers are horrible people. If you see that it was crafted, you should know its not the real deal. Artisan tools are not craftable.

Well, I am pretty sure renaming the item to look like something else is crossing the line. Making up new name for the item so it looks unique... like "crocodile leather bag" seems fine to me, it is bit of roleplaying. Naming the bag Artisan Tool Reward is however far over theline imho.

One way to battle against this is to set the restriction to prevent any items to be renamed to any of other item default names and their localized languages.

Well, it might help, but people can replace letters with similar ones or numerals, or make typos which are hard to notice... I relyl think this is something that Port has to make clear policy for and enforce it.

so does that mean someone is constantly going to have to monitor crafted item names? two twelve hour shifts? grumble... tough rotation. Dibs on the balls to noon watch if it comes down to that.
