Every time I go for a tree, this is what the carnage ends up looking like (kinda extreme if you ask me)

I wandered into that forest last night was was quickly running for my life followed by 3 large brown spiders and 2 wolves that were all red to me. It will be sometime before I venture back there.

It would be great if there was an actual in-game lore to explain some symbiotic relationship between creatures and nature. Better still if there was some systematic gameplay mechanism at work too.

Then again, I'm going to slaughter and cut down everything anyways. Just trying to live up to the prophecy of Avatars laying waste to the lands of Novia. :D

What bothers me is the NPC AI that if I want to fight a wolf, they always run away forever, so as a melee user I have to run through 10 to hit 1. I can't carefully aggro one.

But undoubtedly after they run away, if I attempt to chop down a tree, every mob in the scene runs to me at once.

its the same when many spawn either ignores you and/or runs away when your full of health and power up. pretty sure no wolf ever attacked a man with an axe while chopping a tree. but if they did, I am fairly sure it would look much like your Image.

I honestly think the way they attack you for chopping trees is pretty terrible design.
Why does this game seem designed to make crafting as tedious and expensive as possible?
Why does it take practically an hour of running around just to get enough materials to craft one minor thing?

Potions for example require SO MANY reagents to make, and reagents are so expensive and hard to find, that I would never dream of actually using any potions. They're far too expensive to make, and the effect is certainly not worth the ridiculous investment, so noone is going to buy them at any price that would actually be profitable. They're just not going to use them.

One of the most unique and special things about Ultima Online is that you could even play as a dedicated artisan.
You could chop wood, mine, fish, etc ... all without being forced to fight.
And seeing as combat right now is probably the weakest element in this game it's a shame you can't avoid it.

I can understand the Dogs reason for guarding it, but the spiders? Typically spiders that create webs are not predatory in the sense like a Tarantula. Whats odd to is I have had Wolf spiders shoot webs at me this is a quote from a Wiki: "Wolf spiders do not spin webs and reside instead within burrows"
