Well Time Lord obviously never played it as well ;-)
Because the news are about the Battle.net wich is only remotely connected to wow.
It's interesting for people that play StarCraft or still play Warcraft (the RTS).

Yeah it's consolidated billing and account management. And WoW only joined it a few years ago. They can name it whatever they want.

Sadly I remembered when Blizzard transitioned all Warcraft accounts to Battle.net. And that was not 20 years ago. At least I hope it wasn't, grey hairs in my eyes. Warcraft just had its 10th anniversary not long ago.

I get a certain pain in my stomach when I play WoW. It's like when I was less than ten and my mom would force me to eat those soggy green beans or left over meat loaf, yuk!

I am complaining to my friends here because I don't want to complain to my friends I am sacrificing for. Is that so bad?

I guess their marketing team is running out of things to do.

I don't understand why this is here.

Apart from reminding me to do some world questing and dungeons after work.

FFXIV is adding Apartments to their hosting system on the 27th

Changing names seems to amuse gaming companies. I do play WoW but in truth the name change means little to me so long as they do not then insist I need different things to still be able to log in.

~Entertainment Venture Capitalist War Bucks Investor Insanity~
What I find as odd and revealing about this article, is the fact that "it's news". Why it's news is self evident when it comes to the gaming industry, which I feel has no or little "news" to speak of. To me this indicates that "any news" is worth reporting on in gaming or gaming has lost it's appeal, "which it hasn't and now competes with television". Star Citizen has been in the news lately for their release of a demo video of just how real "real can be" in a video game when an avalanche of cash is dropped on it.

When looking at the average tv sit-com, these shows can average around $10 million per hour episode. When we see it in entertainment longevity, the video game offers much more to the consumer than any sit-com could at a very legitimate cost for the investor. Game of Thrones costs $6 million per episode, yet how much of our daily lives will that single showing episode fill is just a smidgeon of what something like SC or SOTA can fill.

It's just some strange entertainment investor venture capitalist sort of comparative phenomena in corporate insanity if you ask me o_O...
But that's what I see in this, so called, "news" o_O

Well it Kind of is news.
Keep in mind that the Battle.net is one of the oldest Multiplayer Network Services out there. And probably the one with the longest continuing Service.
    It's 'death' is noteworthy.
It's just not interesting for everybody.

It's not dead. Just a name change like Google is now "Alphabet."

It's sort of a news hungry environment for gaming o_O
I mean, if this is big news, then whenever our planets begin effecting our game as no other game has ever before, it should make for quite a splash in actual gaming newsworthy news.

Google is still Google. The Holding-Company over Google is Alphabet... (sorry, needed to correct that)
But yea, Battle.net only changes names... like the Raider to Twix thingy and many other name-changes... That's called "rebranding" if I remember correctly. Usually used if a brand (name) is used up or burned up or became unpopular for some reason ro the other and they need a fresh new start. It's all the same here. I only wonder if that is of any concern for SotA... but well, it's a free world (mostly) so why not bring it up here.

I few years too late, I'd say.

B.net was such as confusing thing for me back in the day because I used to play on Battle.net and Bungie.net and everyone used the short B.net label.

Brand name changes are stupid. At my job, my team and I have spent a good year of solid work to effect the change in the company's brand name. People still know it's you. It's your name. Do everyone a favour and deal with it. It only shows lack of confidence.

With the exception of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, all Blizzard (aka: non-Silicon & Synapse) games ran on Battle.net. Even Warcraft II got a Battle.net edition. World of Warcraft was the only online game that wasn't running on the service... well, it was, but like Warcraft III, it was segregated from the rest.

Yes, people playing Warcraft III had to use different battle.net accounts and couldn't see people playing the other Blizzard games. This is still true to this day.
