COTO question?

I thought that COTO could drop from mobs and nodes ect...but I have never got one. Did they stop that or is it something specific that I need to harvest? Or did I just misunderstand?

 

COTOs do drop, but it is at a very, very limited rate. Everyone who pledges got COTOs, so there is a large glut of them in the system. Chris said that the rate at which they drop will go up as the number of COTOs in the world goes down. That should happen as rent becomes due and as people use them to repair their favorite gear and weapons. Perhaps within the next few months it will happen.

 

I got a bronze one yesterday...first one I've gotten since persistence.

 

it just seems weird because I hunt a lot in the foothills and mine in lvl4-5 mines but I have got nothing......yet it seems that some folks have tons and are selling them right and left. I would like to think I can get one to repair my sword without having to buy them!!! Just seems like somewhere the system is out of balance.

 

A silver Coto dropped for me a few days ago, first one that I've ever seen drop.

 

As I said, a ton of gold COTOs were given to people as part of their pledges. I have been playing since August, and I have yet to see any COTOs 'out in the wild.'

 

I got a few of them from mining... different type of metals...

In 550 hours of game play, I have looted 1 meteoric one from mining a node.

 

First few weeks of persistence I was lining regularly, had 3 drop. Since then really stopped mining and more killing, and no drops since then.

Seems odd because I am killing way more creatures now than the number of nodes I mines then.

 

They do drop, I just got one last week while random mob hunting.

Persevere, believe, do not actively look for them, and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

 

Is there an assumption that the number of COTOs in the world will go down? Because they can be bought in effectively unlimited quantities from the add-on store and it seems they will always be in demand so will keep being pumped into the world that way. I think I'd prefer a low, but fixed, drop rate, rather than one which is dependent on other people not buying with RL money.

 

Chris has stated multiple times that he thinks that the number of COTOs in world will go down and the value will go from where it is now (about 1300gp individually) to something higher. I don't remember if it was him, or just general speculation, but I have seen the number 3500 floated around multiple times. He is manually controlling the COTO drop rate and it is tied into how many are in the world.

People can buy them from the Add-on store, but I think the general idea is that if people are buying COTOs they are doing so for a purpose and are probably not holding onto them for very long. The overall amount in the world shouldn't make any permanent jump once it reaches some equilibrium between loot drops and usage. We'll be seeing more ways to spend them pop up next week in (what I believe to be) an effort to reduce the number.

 

I have received 7 since persistence. Two just the other day in one mob session. I believe it is totally random and I have been very lucky. Go figure. I could buy all the raffle tickets in any raffle and still lose.

 

I bought 200 of them and I have purpose. They are to pay rent on a quarterly basis for this coming year. Hopefully rent will be reduced by then. I have enough money invested in this game for a bunch of pixels.

 

Think between 5 of us we've seen 3 since R34, running only 5 skull stuff.

They're not going to drop very often because they want you to buy them from the add-on store. The fact that they drop at all is just to try and placate people who are critical of the premium currency business model I imagine.

 

What are the non-gold COTO's used for if I may ask? I know the gold ones restore max durability on equipment but I've never been sure what the lesser metals do.

 

Any of the different Crowns you find will repair max dura.
You can also buy potions, and pay lot taxes with them.

Main difference btwn them is the gold crowns can be used to purchase any of the other type of Crowns from a Crown Vendor in one of the magic shops.

 

Many of us misunderstood. Reality is, the chances of getting a COTO through any other means then Buying from Cash Shop, or Buying from players who buy through the Cash Shop and resell for in-game gold, is close to nil.

 

Let's put it this way, I wouldn't go out to farm mobs or harvest if I need a COTO in the next day or so.

Buying it off a Vendor or Add-On Store are the only viable choices left.
