Title: I'm a thief because of bad UI
    Reproduction Rate: 100%
    Blocker? n
Details: When trying to talk to the cooking merchant in Central Brittany, I was having trouble double-clicking no the NPC. When she moved unexpectedly, I double clicked on the scale behind her and now I'm a thief!

I don't want this scale, but unfortunately I can't put it back where I found it. I don't want to be a scale thief but unfortunately I am. Perhaps you can allow us to "sell" back these items for ZERO profit and call it even?

Steps to Reproduce: Double click on NPC's, if they move you might be a thief.
    User Specs:
    OS: Windows 10 (10.0.0) 64bit

System behaving currently as expected. Shifting topic to the feedback section for further review.

    Thanks!

One should be able to pick things up and then put them down. One should only get tagged as a thief if one leaves the shop/area with it still in ones possession.

@Lum the Mad talked about adding an "owned" tag to items so that we would at least know what items we could safely take without incurring a virtue hit. Can we please get that?

@Baron Drocis Fondorlatos, I know that won't help the situation you're talking about.

Yeah, I agree. I think there should be a pop up window "Do you wish to steal this item?" with tickable checkbox for "Do not ask me again" at the very least. Ability to return items would be great too.

Good idea. That would actually solve both.

i'm not a fan of another popup window just for that, I think that's getting to be a bit too much handholding

just be careful where you click.

This is probably a classic example of where the "is this fun" question should be asked.

The answer here is to just let him take the damn scale without being tagged as a thief.

Only tag people as thieves if they steal from other players.

If guards arent going to apprehend you for being a criminal.. it would be interesting to have a skill check on stealing.

Added to this, sometimes a double-click interacts with an item, and sometimes it takes the item. And you have no way of knowing which until you do it. Makes for much unintended thievery...

Sadly enough did the same thing when attempting to buy reagents in spite. Guess I am a kleptomaniac because I did not intend to steal, but it ended up in my pack anyway.

I'm bound and determined to not get on the Oracle's sh**list for anything...

So far - she thinks I'm kewl (passed her virtue tests twice now) so we're all good... ;)

Lesson 1 from a guy the Oracle thinks is kewl:

NEVER doubleclick or drag ANYTHING in an area where the stuff around you is not trying to kill you.

I mean, if the stuff around you is ATTACKING YOU, then ALL BETS ARE OFF.
I win - they're stuff is mine by default. Spoils of war and all that.....

If the Oracle disagrees, then s**ew her....
Thankfully, so far she seems to agree with my style... :)

Anyway, that's my theory -- and so far - me and the Oracle are kewl...

I must confess: I am a thief. I stole hundreds of carrots and tomatos, closet contents of npc homes and many other things. I don't feel bad and I still have fun with the game. Even when I talk to the Oracle and she asks me about my truth I answer "No" and still I receive xp and gold. So, where is the beef with steeling?

Every city guard should get a KOS list in R36 imo :) Aaand the other way in pirate-themed towns.
Being Mr. Bad Guy should be meaningful.

Double-click should never mean "take". It's for interaction. Now it might still be theft (I.e., eating someone's food), but we need consistency.

That would spice things up. Still seems like such drastic change should warrant a karma reset.

I haven't tested it, but my guess is that there was a misclick involved where the double click translated to a very quick "drag and drop".

If mistaken thievery affects virtue, ok. But then allow us to donate items to NPC vendors for no payment in return for earning that virtue back.
