I am looking at getting a new PC. I see in the patch notes that "AMD A8 Graphics Chipsets" don't work with Unity. The graphics card that seems to best fix my price-point et. al. is the Radeon RX 480.

I can't see anywhere that it is part of the A8 family (which I thought were CPUs). Has anyone used this graphics card with SOTA? Or any Radeon card, for that matter?

Updated: Actually, it was the 480 I was looking at, not the 460.

I imagine it would work. Just it would not be optimized for the game, so you wouldn't have the smoothest game play possible.

I run a 980ti and this game hiccups and stutters right now anyways. So you wont be seeing picture perfect quality this early in development with any video card.

Currently I have a GeForce GT635. I just want make sure the Radeon will work with SOTA - that it isn't affected by the Unity bug.

I am not an expert but I wouldn't get the Raedon on purpose since there have been issues with Unity with it at all. I wouldn't do it if you can anyway help it. No AMD's either. Just imo though, and sure people who have them might disagree because their system works well, but after hearing about issues, I would avoid them, even if some don't have them. ;) This game is so not optimized much at all at this point so it is laggy in huge groups sometimes. I have the Geforce 1060 since I just got a new computer built and really Intel is selling the new graphics cards for really low prices compared to what was done in the past. Are you building a computer or buying an already built one? Check out these prices for an example.

Let's be really frank about this topic.
I am an old amd fanboi but even I have to agree that Nvidia just smashed amd with the last release of cards.
At the moment I would prefer the 1060 over every amd card if it comes to money/performance of the card.

I bought both the rx480 8gb and the gtx 1060 6gb and I had a higher average fps with the Radeon (specifically in SOTA @ 1080p), so I shipped the Nvidia card back. This was probably an outlier as far as results go but with SOTA I had no issues with my rx480 and it was ~$50 less than the 1060. I couldn't justify the price difference for a few more fps.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thank you all for you help; I have ordered the PC. For the record - I went with a GTX 1070 8GB.
