So, I buy a garlic seed for 8gp, then I plant it, water it and wait 12h.
Now I hasvest 3 Garlic, each one worth 4gp at npc, so I profited 4gp(if I buy the water bucket its 2gp of profit) from that planting pot in 12h and I will have to buy more seeds for the next turn.
Its clearly designed to not make profit, but, why would I plant then? If I can go and buy from npc for almost the same price and instantly? I think that at least, when you harvest, the crop would give you those 3 ingradient plus the seed, thats not the case, I need to go to the vendor, buy new seeds, and look at his neibor vendor inventory and see that he is selling potatoes already harvested for 4gps or so.

Are you watering more than once? They have to be watered at certain time intervals for higher yield....also, agriculture skills aren't in yet, I suspect they will affect yield and other factors.

If you only water once you'll lose money. If you water twice you'll break even. If you water three times you'll be crop rich. The real trick is figuring out the time schedule, some plants are different.

For example, garlic is VERY fast. I often miss the third watering on garlic.

Thanks for the clarification, can you exemplify what are the numbers you got from 1,2 and 3 waterings? I know that from 1 I allways get 3.

    1 water is approximately 1 to 3.
2 water is approximately 3 (whatever the break even point is for what the NPC's will buy it for)
3 water is like 16 to 18. You're rich! (this may be dependent on the type of plant, but generally speaking it's perhaps 3 to 5 times as much as what NPC's would pay you)

One more thing...I don't think it's going to stay this simple for much longer.

Eventually we'll have celestial effects that impact crafting. What that means is that as the stars and moons rotate, crops may grow faster or slow or in more abundance etc... So at some point we're going to have to pay a lot of attention to the sky to figure out when the best time to plant "garlic" or whatever is. ;)

it is said that you need to look at the dirt too. If the ground does not look wet around the plant perhaps it needs more water. I do think more is coming to agriculture, it is not done and it definitely needs some more cool stuff added to do like when it rains we have a chance of earthworms coming out of the ground to harvest for fishing. Also plants that can get conditions if we don't take care of them like dying and wilting. Also rewards for having a green thumb might be great to have as an achievement and hmmm perhaps largest tomato grown achievement etc.

@Jagunso , there's more information about growing and watering plants here: https://www.sotalore.com/farming

As for outputs, it looks like it varies with crop. However, with 3 properly timed waterings I am seeing around 15 nightshade and mandrake root per planting. For cotton the output tends to be close to 11 per plant.

    Growth time is something like..
you plant it with water. You immedietly water afterwards.. and the water timer starts before you can water it again. Water timer is 1/3 of the total growth time. each can be waterd 4 times. (1 on plant, 1 after , 2 in duration of the grow )
Max yield makes it completly worth it.
Green houses half the growth time.

I don't know where you get those numbers. I water ZERO times (except at planting) and this is my usual harvest. It's pretty consistent from crop to crop. I use no fertilizer either.

Interesting. I think you should 1. Try Garlic. 2. Try watering more. Your results will vary, I promise you.

Lets take 12 hour crops in a greenhouse for example, their harvest rate for watering 4 X's is lower than 24 or 36 hour crops.

Garlic planted in a greenhouse grows in 12 hours. It needs to get a second watering at planting and two additional water at 4 hours and 8 hours. (Water timer is always 1/3 of the growing timer.) The harvest for garlic for no extra watering is 1,for 4 watering it is 8.

Compare that to lemon, a 24 hour crop in a greenhouse. If you don't water it but only once, the harvest is 2. But at 4 watering, the harvest is 15.

Buckets of water run 4 gold if you buy them, vs harvesting water for free from a well or fountain. But with 4 watering either with bought or free buckets of water on any seed planted, you always come out ahead rather than buying the finished product from a NPC. :)

Cool, I couldn't care less about garlic or lemons. I can live with 7 cotton instead of whatever else it gives me. I can play the game instead of running back to my house to water plants.

Some of the plants can be very nice for deco on the single potted plants btw... Save some money from having to buy the add-on store ones.

I'm a heavy magic user and I barely use reagents now. Out of the gate I'm at a 49% chance to not use a reagent.

I can go into an instance, farm everything while keeping my skellie up and still only use 1 or 2 of each. Besides, of the seven possible reagents, only three you can grow. The other four are drops or purchases.

I spend almost nothing on reagents so growing them is 'meh'. IMO, the space is better used for cotton.
