My data suggests that the Pristine heads drop rate is WAY to low.

Prior to R36's nerf to the Pristine head drop rate ( which seemed fair, IMO) I had been collecting the Pristine heads of everything that dropped them for myself and my guildies. At the time that R36 was released I had almost all of them, although only 2 Pristine Obsidian Wolf heads.

Since the drop rate nerf, I killed/skinned 53 Patriarch bears before I got a single Pristine head.

Since the drop rate nerf, I've so far killed 159 Obsidian wolves and have gotten ZERO Pristine heads.

@Chris @Darkstar @Lord British The Pristine heads are used for only 1 thing: Mounting the head!
I can see absolutely no reason as to why the drop rate should be this low, given their use, and most especially the Obsidian "class" mob drop rate makes zero sense. I challenge the 3 of you to go out and find Obsidian Wolves and start killing them and see how many hours it takes you to get a Pristine head !

Oh, in case you are thinking that my Field Dressing skills are lacking - here they are:

I use a very fast, very good text filter on my chat logs (logs which I can certainly provide if needed), and here's a pic of that partial data (can't fit the text into a spoiler)

Please review this data, and increase the drop rate on everything "Obsidian" at least.
Actually, since the Pristine heads are only used as mounted heads, you could increase the drop rate on ALL of them....

    C'mon man...
    ;)

Wow, that is a bit low,, thats like .5% drop for obsidian wolves.. even if they double it its still low.. should be at least 1 in 50 or 1 in 25...

Yea, considering that the only thing they are used for is wall mounts, there's no reason to be so stingy with Pristine heads.

you don't think survey might have an effect on finding a rare drop?

Before R37, I used to get a fair number of pristine wolf heads, not so much on the bears, but a few. Since R37, I've killed a LOT of them -- South Shattered Hills, Far Hinterlands, Northeast Blackblade, Verdantis Pass, and Twin Foothills -- and haven't harvested a single one.

I'm not a GM in field-dressing, but my skill is somewhere ~80.

One thing to note is that this is for a decorative item, that is also a (somewhat high requirement) craftable.

It should be rare, because it never decays.
So for every 1 you make, that's 1 that never needs to be made again, to fullfill the limited demand for the item.

I was always annoyed how rediculously common pristine heads were. A trophy should be "hey i slaughtered a literal village and a town and maybe a city full of these things, and this is my achievement, something worth putting on my wall to brag about". Likewise, something crafters can realistically supply for a bit of profit.

You walk into someone's house and all they have are heads everywhere, and you'd think "Wow, they hunted a ton or are rich enough to pay others to hunt a ton", not "Man i have 3000 of those in my bank".

    Umuri beat me to it.

This game will last for many years, and someday you may appreciate the word "rare" much more than you do now. There is a small amount of content in this game at the moment and to keep it semi-unique we need rare drops like this. I'm glad those drops are so rare, it makes them special.

I'm not trying to sound argumentative or condescending here. I'm only trying to point out that we need goals to obtain, otherwise we'll run out of them.

    Oh please.......

It's a freeking wall mount with no value other than that of a wall mount. o_O

I think some people just like to argue. :(

Mh I actually agree with @Umuri as well. Just because it's craftable it doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't be rare.
It has no use or value except as decoration and as a collectors item.
Which is btw the perfect description for a SotA rare.

Let me pivot the argument a little: it has no value other than a decoration. We can live without it. It gives no perceivable advantage to its owner. So it can be rare.

So, what exactly does survey do besides increase the sparkle effect?

Well a least its a complaint with an almost scientific proof.
    Which is indeed nice!
If it's a problem at all is a different topic :D

    Edit:

Did you guys even look at the data I posted ?
I can't believe you guys think that something that I have personally skinned, with all (relevant) GM's in skinning, virtually 1000's of times - shouldn't give a better ratio than 1 in 200 ! (or whatever it ends up being beyond that, since I've still not gotten a single one ) ?

It's a freekin mounted head, not the eternal sword of infinite power for Pete's sake.

    I mean, C'mon man.......

    No it isn't.

    I see your point but:
I can't believe you really complain that something that is so unimportant as a rare deco item has a drop rate of 1:200
I mean it's not like it has any importance or any use at all!

    I mean, C'mon man...... ;)
