my undertanding is : the pattern then creates a visual "look alike" of the pledge item, is that true?

if so, is that visual replica of the pledge item then flagged non-tradable?

Otherwise, are you not concerned that having these replicas in the free market may lower the percieved uniqueness of original pledge items. If they can be visually replicated and sold everywhere (even if they don't maintain the stats or indestructability) I imagine we'll see them everywhere on every vendor pretty quickly.

The eternal recipes work like the Immortality fruit. Once you use the recipe to make a visual replica of the pledge item then the only way to get it back again is to destroy the replica. Only one copy at a time.

Placing the replica on sale means that you lose that recipe - not to mention that your original item is gone.

    @DarkStarr

Is there any intent to gate the application of some patterns by skill level? It sounds like, so far, that's not the case. So this isn't entirely a boon for crafters if anyone can apply any pattern to any item.

(Not criticizing the system. I like the concept a lot.)

It might be fun to throw a few in the mix that only high level crafters can apply.

    One possible worry.
If you now can salvage pledge gear to obtain the eternal pattern it will also be possible to salvage gear by mistake.

Did the PvE crowd miss that part?
Cash bought items can be looted and stolen.

Considering that the bulk of PvE players will never flag for PvP, I think it's not a major concern. If you do flag for PvP though then carrying a replica of a pledge item is definitely a bad idea. One of the first things I'll do once it's possible is to salvage my Vanduul polearm to imprint it on my favorite halberd. That weapon is never going to be on me while I'm flagged.

The item you're applying the pattern to can already be looted and stolen, you'll lose the pattern too but to obtain it you must first consciously destroy the original item.

How will masks work with the new system? Can my grim reaper be applied to a epic cloth hood?

My only concern here is that my life seems to be around killing bears for xp and skill ups, bears drop no loot.. so in some ways I pay heavy for that cos you dont get rich killing bears, but now if i cant even buy patterns etc.. this could end up troublesome

I didnt mind not getting the loots so much cos I have a monumental load of animal hides, but, if I cant go to a vendor for patterns, and if I havent bought them already - this could be worrying.. cos Im rather squishy, everything else comes in manys.. However, if the patterns now mean that 1 2h sword is the same pattern for everything from copper, iron and whatever.. it will be a change for the better.. but what about all the patterns we already have? are they effectively lost remnants of a former time?

I edited the OP to add some clarity about your chances to receive an Eternal Pattern from purchased items (always 100%) vs in-game items (skill level chance based).

I don't quite understand your concern. Can you please explain further? What "patterns we already have" are you referring to?

Don't worry the elves won't be dropping that armor only some new Elven weapons.

Yes eventually the quest hats will get patterns added to them but probably won't make this first round. Remember you will have to salvage them to get the pattern.

Yes in the Release notes and in the descriptions of active items in the store.
