When and how is the recipe used or aplied?

At the begining or after master working and chanting?

I guess my real question is can this be done after mw/chanting? Or does this need to be done at the time of creation?

It can be done afterwards. Create your item, enchant it, masterwork it, make it nice then you can add the pattern.

that's excellent. May I ask, after using a pattern, will the weapon retain its material color?

Only "eternal patterns" come back the others are a consumable.

Nope. I tried this and, while I did get back a pine bowstave, I did not get back the pattern.

What happens if I were to enchant/masterwork a piece that already had an eternal pattern applied and then fail? Would I get the eternal pattern back along with the scrap?

They answered that somewhere. Sorry... I cannot link to it.
But they said a failure in mw/enchant will not destroy an eternal pattern.

I've got one: if I salvage in bulk, does this prevent my chances of a pattern dropping? I've got ~90 carpentry salvage and haven't had a pattern drop from 100+ salvages of junk. Maybe everything doesn't have a pattern?

I've been salvaging in bulk and have received patterns. Only select weapons have a chance to drop a pattern. Here are what patterns can drop via Release 39 Instructions:

    • In-Game: These are obtained by salvaging these weapons that are looted from NPCs in the game.
      • Kobold Hammer
      • Kobold Chain Sword
      • Elven Woodwind Longbow
      • Katana
      • Lich Axe
      • Norgard Great Axe
      • Norgard Lucerne Hammer (2H Polearm)
      • Norgard Spatha
      • Norgard Spear
      • Satyr Axe
      • Satyr Bardiche
      • Vile Chekan (1H Hammer)
      • Vile Falchion
      • Vile Halberd
      • Vile Mace
      • Vile Shortsword

No the patterns you find in game are consumables, one use only...

Edit: Oh eternal, yes.. from what I read there is no way to destroy eternal patterns. They should always come back.

I have 2 questions about patterns:

    1) can you use a "cloth" armor pattern to change the appearance of a "leather" armor item? Assuming the same piece, say chest armor piece.

    2) will the telethon items yield eternal patterns?

The pattern system looks to be interesting, and perhaps more involved than just having cosmetic slots.

Well, if one right-click > Destroy the item I'd guess that the eternal pattern would be destroyed as well.
    :p

    No.

Leather and Cloth are different 'types'.

Yes, they mentioned that. But in the state they were we might not necessarily fully trust them to remember.
    ;)
So unless you see them listed under the Pattern list in the release notes then don't try it on your own outside of QA.

Thanks Spoon. I have not been overly attentive over the last month or so. I did make the telethon though!

I have a question about the patterns and possibly a suggestion. I saw Patterns being sold on a vendor and some of the patterns were not the ones on the list of dropped patterns. The only thing that differentiated the patterns from each other were some had a Value of 10, and others had No Value. Are the No Value patterns Eternal Patterns? If so, could we get a label that specifies patterns as Eternal to avoid confusion and to help players, like me, decide if they want to purchase the items in-game and whether we think the price is worth it or not.

Eternal patterns will always have the "eternal" bit as part of the name. I've yet to see one on a public vendor.

So the difference is that some come from the addon store. Where there are people profiting from buying in the store, then selling for gold on public vendors, then sell the gold for $ and repeat. This was probably especially nice with the discount during the Telethon.

That would be up to you. But me, I'd wait a little while longer. When it comes to the ones found in game then the more competition the lower the prices goes.
Artifacts that used to go for 100k a few weeks ago are now down to 60k.

If a reward item doesn't produce an eternal pattern then you can't scrap it.
