I have visited Portalarium two times in the last 2 years. I have been impressed with how frugally and thoughtfully they spend the money the backers have provided. I agree with some earlier posts that given the extreme rarity of down time that a 24/7 monitor would be a waste of backers money that could be better spent elsewhere. Well, I give up for the night. Hope to see you all in game tomorrow.

This is the first time I have seen a server downtime like this for Shroud of the Avatar. I think that in itself is rather amazing.

The same cannot be said for any other MMORPG I have tried.

Yes, Didn't really notice or appreciate how stable it has been before todays downtime. Just goes to show that good support is almost invisible.

FFXI has about 6-10 hours once per month, and rarely has any other downtime (some characters stay logged in for weeks at a time, standing around idle for "bazaar" sales from their character), but stuff does happen. SotA has shorter monthly downtime than that.

And this is a third-party supplier problem. Just ask SpaceX about third-party supplier problems.

But they are being monitored... by us! They knew something was wrong very quickly, but monitoring in no way fixes the problem. The servers are probably fine, it's just the pipe that's broken. That's what happened a few months ago, but it was mid-day and thus easier to deliver an e-kick to the hosting provider and get things back up in half an hour.

For those pointing out being economical with the budget, this is probably the correct service level of hosting at this point in development. Instead of never having a problem, having a rare problem gives them a chance to see certain types of failures.

The network status is normal for the provider.

In italian slang, the correct word for this efficiency disaster recovery is... "buffoni"
