How do you make the flaming swords?

I made a sword, stuck a ruby on it and no flames.

So there's no way to permanently have a flaming sword?
Which I guess means there's no point in putting a gem on a sword for a fighter if it all it does in increase spell effects?

not just cast spells, but attunement for that tree. that means, for instance, that if you gem for life, not only will your heal spells work better, other peoples' heals on YOU will work better.

And don't forget WARD gems - which buff your resistance to that element. Rubies enchanted as sorcerous ward gems are quite nice in PvE, and if you know you're up against a certain type of caster (*cough*stone arrow*cough*) having wards up against something like, oh, say, earth magic might be appropriate....
