Do you plan to give the possibility to use Vulkan instead of OpenGL ? Will it help solve the lag ?

I can't upgrade to more than 8gb so I really hope there will be better performance in further releases.

They are working on that right now and should be "vastly" improved by next release :) ~TL~

Still... upgrading RAM is a lot better than what historically occurred with upgrading tech for the Ultima games. I remember catching all sorts of hell from my parents when I wanted to go from an Apple IIe to a 386 PC to a 486 PC to a Pentium based machine as the Ultimas came out. Oh, all the promises and good grades I had to pull. And don't get me started on sound cards and messing around with autoexec.bat and config.sys crap to make the games work. Remember all that, fellow old timers?

If you use the command line switch -force-vulkan then you can try it right now in R42. For me it crashes, I'm sure improvements will happen when Port officially support it.

My parents weren't tech savvy and didn't trust me to open up the chassis on our 386. I had to buy ram with my own money and sneak into their room to install it without them noticing. Ridiculous!:)

Atos said we get to shave his head if performance does not increase 50% (he later said "another dev" but we know what he said so we will hold him to it). SHAVE TIME!!! :)

    I thought the command was " +r_renderAPI -1 " ?

By the way, in R42 my FPS is between 4 to 10 in Ardoris... :'( Really hop R43 will change it since I can't upgrade my computer any more.

Never heard of that, do you have a link? The -force-vulkan is from the Unity documentation.

Not all gaming engines handle memory the same way... Plenty of games that look wonderful and may use less RAM and others that look horrid and yet burn through way more RAM and seem clunky... Minecraft would be a perfect example.

Well, if 8 gig was the issue for me, then now that I upgraded to 32, THAT should be behind me!!!

That article might be relevant if it wasn't written back in 2009.

PS - I'm responding to this now because I just noticed this thread today after someone bumped it with a post.

FYI as of R44 running on linux client:

The RAM usage creeps up to around 12 GB over a period of 1.5 hours without restarting the client.

I run with 16GB never had to go into swap memory.

Uhg i hate this post now - I was loaded and angry.

I should have upgraded my computer two years ago (see specs at bottom) - I'll say though, Sota runs VERY well on lowered settings in my opinion now.

8GB of RAM is not a possibility. Neither is an Intel graphics chipset.
