This goes on a lot in this forum, and in my opinion, and also the opinion of many experts, it almost invariably does not end well for having any kind of fruitful discussion.

In my opinion, and i am sure a lot of people will agree, it's endemic (phun intended).

I think everyone knows that doesn't count as a pun.

Great topic! This quote sticks out to me from your linked page,

I suppose this helps objectify what politics is and why people get hostile over it.

I think you're overestimating the extent to which everyone believes it's not a pun.

    Let me correct.:

"This goes on a lot in the *WORLD*". Its endemic in all zealots in government, corporations and religion. Its been exacerbated to an extreme over the past 25 years with the internet as well as the failure and dismantling of education in the world.

Just trying to keep it on-topic! I agree that this type of behavior is not unique to this forum in any way, shape, or form. However I fear if we start talking about how it plays out in the world at large, then the thread will quickly end up locked.

30+ years back, an english teacher told me to avoid using "I" in writing. However, in recent years I started doing it more often because people to get personally offended when someone invokes an opinion as if to represent them or to make them look defective. Lol, and I became more aware of how my obviously intuitive logic is anything but. My dislike of politicians has only gotten worse because I don't want to be represented by anyone. Hmm, maybe this is why I find the like feature uncomfortable.

How might this go hand in hand with the Dunning-Kruger Effect whereby the less one knows the more they think they know and vice-versa.

Perfect example, every UO player I have ever run into that did PvP was the best PK in UO. There seems to be thousands of people who were the best PK in UO period.

Funny, when I saw the title I thought you were talking about some of the developers, but I'm sure it also applies to backers on the forums as well.

I can't really think of any reason to post this thread other than to encourage trolling and arguments.

@2112starman; You seem to be a very intelligent individual but I think your generalization of UO Players is a bit flawed. I do not know you well, played UO for several years and I also PVPed quite often on Chesapeake shard. Maybe I am the only one that does not claim to be the best PKer nor was I. My idea of PVP entails large scale guild vs guild warfare and the mechanics of which were unique. Hopefully one day we will have the mechanics of guild warfare available here and hopefully you will meet other UO PVPers who do not claim to be the best PKer. R/Boris/El Pirata
