Was this world designed with mounts in mind?

Considering how we can enter caves and houses with the "coconuts" I have to wonder if actual mounts could enter such locations. Perhaps you can creat indoor restrictions regarding mounts, but was this a plan before introducing the coconuts? Would coconuts still function indoors or would they be phased out?

You can see the few notes they had on mounts on the (now defunct) Stretch Goal Store page. Specifically to answer you question:

This seems like one of those things that will eventually have to happen rather than a "defunct stretch goal". Good to know there's at least notes on concepts, but will this game actually launch without mounts? It may be nit-picky, but it seems like a tease considering there are stables and parked horses in the game.

Yes, it will launch without mounts. They will be added when they get the tech in place for them, probably along with (if not before) Episode 2.

The Stretch Goal Store was an opportunity for this to be "pushed up" into Episode 1 if enough dedicated funds could be raised, but was not successful.

So far the game needs all the humor it can get or it's just that I've not yet seen any "fun" quests, but the coconuts and horse heads being our only mounts is pretty embarrassing. Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome "Holy Grail" reference, but it really should just be a fun alternative to actual mounts.

So far the only quests I've seen involve dealing with some threat, but a bit of comedy goes a long way to add diversity to the story. With "Holy Grail" being apparently popular among the devs I'd certainly like to see a few quests references.

Courage Quest: Kill a rabbit... A viscous one, with sharp teeth. If it would seem too WoW throw in a castle siege with knights saying "Meep!" Let us escort a coconut wielding knight with a crippling fear of conflict and his loyal bard whom will award us with a "special song". Devs, make it happen! ;)

I try to ride the Oracle's watchers as mounts, but I end up just crushing and killing them.... The Oracle doesn't like that.

@PhantasmalX There is a killer bunny in game, and you kill it with a sacred orb of obliteration ;) Seriously.

I've never see the death bunny either but I imagine that it's really naughty.

The death bunny was a few releases ago, timed for April Fool's Day. Perhaps it shall return again someday.

I can't understand why you are all so concerned with it. It's just a rabbit.

Never really understood mounts obssession for sota..
The scenes arent big enough.. nor the world map elaborate enough that they will be anymore then luxury cosmetic items.

I dont think theres much reason for them in the current game.

    Whole heartedly agree.

The functionality of a mount isn't needed. It's all cosmetic. Sadly, they will be added due to the store value.

I would hope Animal Taming eventually leads to mounts such as Nightmares, Reptelon and Cu-Sidhe, but other than that mounted combat could be a viable thing. They'd could deal with mounts having some control issues, such as not coming to a full running stop or turning on a dime to make it feel like something other than an afterthought, a bit of drift to them (thinking of Epona from the 'Ocarina of Time'), but at the same time it alters land combat. Mounts could move slower while in combat if set to aggressive or, if set to passive, they would act like coconuts now. There's a great deal this game could do that other MMO's don't and mounts could be used for something other than land travel.

IMO, it'd make taming viable if mounted combat took the rider out save for a few pet commands while buffing the pets HP and damage to act in place of the player, or perhaps using the players HP and Stamina while offering an alternative buff. To make it not seem like a nerf the mounts strength and abilities could depend on the type, pet level and riders level and the rider would have full control of the mount at all times. While the mount could move faster than a normal player it's speed would still be noticeably slower than the current coconut speed while in combat. There could be a limiter in that you can go Aggressive from Passive during combat, but unable to activate Passive again while in combat. If the mount dies the rider dies. Any number of unique aspects other games don't touch on that have a realistic feel and fun alternative to combat. Something that's neither a buff nor a nerf.

Very few MMO's have mounted combat as a form of core gameplay alternative.
