I have a gaming notebook with a GTX 970M (not as good as the regular GTX 970) and SotA runs pretty good on that.

With the new Surface Pro i7 16GB RAM/1 TB it is almost acceptable. The integrated video card causes the processor to write checks that its you-know-what can't really cash but it is SotA running on a tablet and pumping out to a 33" display through HDMI. I was getting seconds per frame during MGT's Festival of Persistence at Rifts End though.

It has integrated graphics (Iris from Intel.) They don't have an earlier version of this chip and I was foolish enough to think that it would handle SotA like my Surface Pro 3 did, which wasn't too bad for a few years ago. I didn't get the Surface Pro 4 because it wasn't enough of an improvement over the 3. I also hoped that the display port would be able to support an external graphics card for good framerates while PVPing. I didn't realize that you needed something like a Thunderbolt connection to take advantage of those external cards. Those ROG laptops have nice cards in them. I will revisit this next year. Maybe give this to my mom or something and get a full sized desktop to do all of my VR stuff.

I dont think that is strictly due to the Card...Ive had Dual SLi GTX1080 and get chug a chuga in Sota, so I switched to a single GTX1080Ti from Asus which is OCd and .....I still get chug a chuga :)

I was butt hurt that I wasted 3k on the new Surface Pro and it's not much better than the Surface Pro 3. If I had your setup and was going chugga chugga I would declare war on everything.

My computer has 8gb ram and it gets pretty stuttery ingame a good bit of the time. Task manager shows sota using 6gb and above. Can't say I can recall any other game I have played recently using anywhere near this much.

I just ordered a 16gb ram kit that will bring me up to 24gb. I hope this helps out.

    This comp specs are
    Cpu: A10-7850k
    Gpu: R9 380 4gb
    Ram 8gb ddr3 2400
    Disk: 256gb SSD
    OS: Win 10

I have a lot of hitching with 32GB Ram, especially during longer sessions.
I hope the issue is history with the Episode 1 launch.

    i7 4790k, 32GB Ram, GTX970, SSD, Ubuntu 16.04.3

It cant hurt, these days 16GB is the min you want if you are a gamer and multi-tasker. I have 32GB but I find that 16 would suffice.

I haven't really kept up with this kind of stuff.......however I do vaguely remember the minimum used to be 4Gb, then it moved to 6Gb now it appears to be 8Gb with 12Gb recommended. The goalposts feel like they are constantly being moved in order to achieve smooth gameplay........meanwhile there are beautiful games available that only still require far less as a minimum..........Black Desert 4Gb, Elder Scrolls Online 3Gb, FF XIV 3Gb, GW2 4Gb

I'm sure there is some technical explanation as to why SotA is so demanding, it would be good to hear the explanation in context and comparison to other leading games as well as clarity over whether or not the issues are likely to be limited to Early Access.

I can also confirm that I have never had what I would consider acceptable smooth gameplay with 32Gb.........It's improved over various release but still has poor loading times, random split second camera shifts etc etc.

Did you ever try to play those 2 with the minimum req?
If not....don't. It isn't worth the effort. Every powerpoint slideshow is faster.

I could quite easily dig out an old machine that had 4Gb to test........I really don't see the point though as I know they will run in their basic settings. The point is why is SotA now at a minimum of 8Gb with 12Gb recommended when other leading games tend to be 8Gb recommended with around 4Gb as the minimum.

Chris is out the rest of this week, but I'll get him to clarify some of the reasons. I know it largely has to do with Unity, as well as the high resolution textures and lighting that we use. Another reason we have to keep lot item counts under control until we can further tweak performance.

Feel free to also ask the question for the R45 postmortem.

The fact that any item could be picked up/moved/rotated with all the light sources able to be picked up/moved/rotated and the fact that towns were full of houses with these types of items on their lots and in their houses - and that the changes needed to happen real-time for everyone in the scene was a lot more taxing than I had initially given credit for. I know this is related to performance but don't know about the ram usage from these activities.

I had 8GB and got tired of loading times etc. and upgraded to 16GB based on a post that Berek that recommended above 12gb but subjectively I noticed zero difference on initial load times or subsequent load times with more ram.

I used to have wicked camera shifts while playing too, but I think that ended prior to the ram upgrade.

I'm hitching all over the place with 32gb ram, 980 GTX Ti and i7 (4.5 Ghz overclocked) and SSD.

It's definetly Unity and SotA, not our machines :p

Some random things out of my mind that cause hitching:
    - respawn of mobs
    - Dragon AI (whenever he stands still for a while and then sets off to flight)
    - tooltips
    - opening inventory
    - loading objects for all the lots
    - shopping with NPCs
    - looting mobs or resource nodes
    - sometimes whenever someone else new zones into your zone in multi
    - and more..

well, a lot of things actually
