Just tested this with something I bought off the crown merchant previously
    [IMG]
    - it's protected now, as intended.

Should still test on QA with something else like a deed - I don't want to use any COTOs on live to check.

(I dumped all my items in containers, etc- except for this item)

    Nothing to loot:

(it IS still sellable to an NPC merchant however, for 0 gold)

Is that the add-on/COTO home or the one you can buy at housing deeds merchants (yes, there are two versions).

Most of the negs in this thread are actually signs that the economy (in game...) is doing better, Port's operational strategy is doing well, and SoTA is becoming more of a success.

    Change is good!

You can always support Port and SoTA buy pledging during a telethon. I believe they will reopoen the add-on store items for purchase during live telethons.

lets see 115 Gold Crowns cost 100$
Rate last night was 4k gold per crown
In those vendors you can buy everything from a plant to a City sized house

how can you saw they should have zero value

According to the topic it was from crowns merchant.

    EDIT
Searched through Chris & Starr's posts and the patch/release noted.
There is no such change listed or posted about.
However there are references to objects with 0g value not being lootable lest one fill up with Rusted Daggers or such.
Then there are mentions of BurningToad changing values on a lot of objects.

So I'm guessing the 'fix' was in the other end.

People have been complaining for quite some time how hard it was to find out where to buy specific stuff ingame. This is the time to address that before the game launches.

Anyone who has spent time visiting other sites or forums knows how strong the pay2win stigma is regarding the old online store - so the current store format is long overdue.

Didn't @majoria70 suggest something that could address the object/product visibility problem not too long ago?

I would prefer the items have the same protection as the ones in the cash shop since they are limiting when you can buy them - flash sales or during a telethon.

They could also add a disclaimer to the items if they have value saying - This has a value, can be looted/stolen in PVP.

This part is still scary. Some could buy something very expensive and accidentally sell it. I don't feel like this user experience would be acceptable at the launch stage.

Good to see I'm not the only one who doesn't see this almost complete removal of items from the Store to the game as a good idea.

One major benefit of the online store was the ability to actually see what you are buying and perhaps some info on it. Not just a really small image and a price tag in game. I'm a new player to the game and the idea of having to google search what an item or house looks like without hoping to spot one in game is very frustrating.

I get the idea of not wanting to display prices to give an incorrect image of what the game is. However as someone already mentioned, surely having a list of items and previews which then point you to where to get them in game would be a far better approach.

The game has issues explaining its self to new players as it is and fortunately I have the patience to look at youtube, google search and dig into the game to find info I need. Others will not.

I like that the team has created less of an RMT aura around the game. But I agree with the OP. Purchases may decline. I'll still buy 'must haves' items, I'm sure. But I know I'm less likely to go through the hassle of buying COTOs then tracking down the right vendor in game for 'would be nice' type items. I was more likely to grab the latter on the web store. It boils down to an 'out of sight, out of mind' phenomenon for me.

It's a good move despite being difficult to navigate at the moment. By launch new people wont come to this crazy huge pay-to-win looking online store. They will need to uhhh you know... explore the game to find things in game. A directory would help.

Purchased for 20,000, but the Value is half that, and an NPC would only give you 8,000. It looks like the Oracle is really ripping somebody off! Reminds me of the first day or two of Blood Bay, when someone pick-pocketed about 200 black pearl that I had been picking up around the coast. The Oracle wanted 12 each for them, and I said nope and let them go.

I have seen some vendors with COTOs at a large range of prices, up to 10,000 each (and similar sell orders going down to 1800 each!), which seems to be both lazy and smart. When people want them bad enough, they'll pay the slightly higher price. Then after a while you simply restock at 500-1000 below that high-water mark.

That's zero "Value" with a capital V, as in the item attribute that determines what NPCs will pay for it (usually at 80% of that).

Otherwise yeah, I think their crazy plan just might work.

Did some testing right now in QA
It is ALL protected. Not just 0g value.
(thank you Lana for killing me repeatedly).

Bought a bunch of stuff with Gold COTO - deeds, homes, deco etc.

Kept some of the COTO to - some with a gold value and some with no value.

Had some pledge items, some telethon items, some quest items.

    None of them were lootable/ransomed.

The only thing of real value were Artificts which is as it should be.
I also tried locking my scrolls - and those were looted as well, so that is good.

I will edit my posts upthread.

Hey Numa.. This is my suggestion..

    Specialty crown merchants
Then, what the game can do if necessary is advertise these specialty crown merchants and noticeboards. And they could be listed on the website too I think without listing item-by-item inventories, because its kind of obvious, for instance, what type of Add-on items a Crown Arborist would sell.

The line item information is still necessary, as part of what was helpful was being able to see screenshots of the items, and where relevant, other items to give a sense of size and proportion. None of which you can do now with only the in-game COTO vendors.

Wait for Tuesday and much of what's been said in this thread becomes meaningless. In R52 you get to see real nice miniatures of many of the items on the obsidian vendors, at least for the ones that make. I'd guess 90% of the items have in-game 3D models that can be rotated and zoomed. It's a little clunky to rotate and zoom but I hope they clean it up. What isn't included for now are things like the deeds, dyes, patterns, etc.
