It looks pretty nice couple of fans, some metal bits. Definitely a video card.

A GTX 1050 will be a fine card to use.

So there's a few folks saying 2GB would be fine, and one vote for no on 2GB, but not alternatives suggested for under $200.. hmm!! Thanks for the input. Would probably be running at 720p or 1080p resolution.

Figuring that you're on a $200 budget, if you increased your limit by a little you could get a 1050ti with 4gb, which would run sota more easily at 720p or 1080p.
Going with a 2gb card is a viable option as well, but you will be having to turn down a lot of settings to the point the visuals won't be appealing in my opinion.

Here is a 2 fan 1050ti, hope this helps you out in your decision.

My advice is wait if you can, or even go used on ebay. I read that nvidia undershot this years demand by around 37% and are prolly trying to catch up with "gamers first in mind" (sure sure) It just isn't the year for a gamer on a budget to get a new card without paying the "crypto currency era penalty fee" If I was forced, I'd lean toward the 1060+ pascal range. A new video card architecture is right around the corner. Nvidia may or may not be intentionally sitting on to "Milk" pascal architecture. Something to think about.

well right now my dad can't play at all due to the AMD 6850 completely dying... so unfortunately waiting is not a preferable option, but we may be able to swing a 1050ti, but I guess the crypto-influence at the 1060 level is unfortunate.

It's too bad that the prices of GPUs have been driven up so high by the crypto-coin retardism.

I am also seeing the people buying the crypto grade GPU units are dumping their older GPU boards on eBay and other forums.
Many of the older boards are more than adequate for running SotA.

Thanks for everyone's help. I found another card in my basement I'm gonna dust off and see how it goes first, but if not then seriously considering the $200 1050ti.

When using the 1050ti will it bottleneck when paired with a phenom ii x4 965?

In that case the CPU is bottlenecking the GPU. (You won't see the FPS that the GPU is capable of.)

I have a 970 as well and it runs amazing with an i5 processor. 16 gigs of ram...simple build and handles SOTA great.
