good equipment/ build for a paladin? looking to run spear plus shield when tanking and spear wand when not tanking sound ok? i figure the spear would help me hit more targets and build exp and draw more aggro. Was thinking full chain but not sure best in slot for neck and rings, any suggestions to this kind of build? thanks!

That would largely depend on the answer to the question
    What Is a paladin?
This since the definition differs on the answer.

For instance IIRC in the Song of Roland one of the twelve Paladins is a sorcerer.

Your paladin can use a spear. They use swords in some games and hammers in others. In this game they use whatever you want.

A cleric is also a tanky healer as well with that build i try to stay heavy armor-plate, chain, (semi-based on D&D)
    -Shield and bludgeon
    -life, earth, sun, air
Then i find spells in all skills that heal.

If i were to make a pally i would have the same skills (except bludgeon) i would change that to 2 handed sword, and have another deck with sword and shield.
    So
    -blades
    -hvy armor
    -shield
    -sun, life, earth, air
From that point i would look fir trees that have party buffs.

That is just my opinion, definately not the right or wrong answer. It depends on your play.

So basically a cleric is a tank healer and a pally is a tank buffer, with basic healing.

Just my opinion and i hope it helped or gave a perspective for you to at least think on. Feel free to pm me on the forums here.

The use of spear and a shield is a good choice. The spear has a passive for extra defense, so it's a good tank weapon. Life magic works well with heavy armor, since it has one of the lowest fizzle chances of the spell schools.

A mix of chain and plate, with +life attunement on your necklace, ring, weapon, shield and chest piece will work well. If you're shooting for mostly using healing touch and healing ray, you can get away with mostly plate probably.

Good luck, and it's a very viable build.

Except in Ultima 4 where their weapon of choice was a halberd...

Historically, a paladin is a knight who is devoting is life to a religious or philosophical cause, with a great faith.

Paladins are generally part of religious orders such as *gasp* the Templars Order.

So I guess that the first thing that a paladin would need is a horse *hint* for the knight thing.

The choice of the weapon is yours, as long as you believe in a greater cause (of your choice too :D).

But you will need the horse !

Heavy armor, sun, and life with any weapon of choice get you as close to a paladin build one can get, I believe. I did this for awhile running polearms because I like the 2H pole animations and the crowd control features of the skills. Then plate (and sometimes shield) for melee, and chain with wand for heavier casting. I eventually dropped sun for earth/moon to differentiate between builds/decks more, moving away from a paladin.

Unfortunately for me, my main character's negative virtue means that my secondary character in R52 will most likely be a death knight. Your main and second share the same virtue alignment :(

Chain seems to be the best heavy armour for someone that wants a decent chance of casting spells.
Spears can be dual wielded (oddly) and I have seen people with a wand in one hand, weapon in the other.

Personally, I am going for a tank +( healer in a pinch.)
My main focus and specialisation will probably be plate armour.

While levelling and questing, I am using a long sword and shield.
(Long swords are very common to buy with good enhancements and enchantments)
I have theugaaaghlghg (+ life, necklace and ring).

When it comes to group raids, I see myself either just tanking as much damage as I can in full plate.
If I am needed as a healer instead, I will have some cloth gloves with reduction to fizzle chance + a two handed staff. (That should be enough fizzle bonus to get the heals out and only carry two extra items).
