Gathering help! Please!

OK, so this is frustrating. I've watched several videos on how to gather resources. I'm doing a quest in the newbie area that tells me to gather 4 maplewood. I have all of the tools I need (I think). Videos have told me that I need to drag the tools to the hotbar to use them, but when I try to do that, it doesn't seem to let me put them there.

Is this something that was changed in the recent release? If so, how do I gather? Thanks.

 

if you click the gear on the top right of your inventory window, you should see in the crafting tab all your crafting tools that are equipped. they're hidden by default, but you start with them ready to go. that is a very old video indeed.

 

no... you just have to equip the tool... when equipped... you just have to get close to the tree and double click on it...

I personally use E (default Action key) for just about everything. I don't double click very much.

 

I use some of the keys but habits are hard to break the E is a good key when trying to find a loot point.
