Yes, but why would I do this. Steam is more comfortable and I can’t unbind my account anymore. I use the standalone client for QA but for the normal client I don’t mind the bigger updates.

Same here. Helps me keep track.

Using the stand-alone client for QA is a great idea. Thanks :)

Steam, because I don't have to use Sota credentials anywhere, ever , thus giving me a little more protection ( can't steal password, if I never type it). Steam has 2 step security, so it offers lot more than sota on that area.

Really... seems like there are more people actually using steam than we thought here.

Also this is “users”, not accounts which might distort the statistics otherwise

Steam because I prefer to keep everything consolidated. But I do appreciate the choices available.

Standalone clients as I need 2 separate clients for QA, and I did read somewhere that the standalone clients gets patches faster. Although not sure if this is really the case.

You can play through steam with multiple account without linking them. When you open up through steam instead of clicking the login through steam, just type in your password for the account you want to login to. :)

    Port.

I prefer not authenticating using other account information when I can use a separate and discrete one.

You can't assume that Forum Users responding to a forum poll are a representative sample of all users. It would be a mistake to draw any conclusions from this poll.

But Steam would still count it as 1 Player, no mather how many Accounts you use to login via this methode. I am pretty sure the Porta Metrics will also only count the "Sign in throuh Steam" logins as "Steam" and not the normal login.
But yes, when i start the Game via Steam and use my normal Account to login i think this will count on both sides as 1 Player.

Who cares? The millions of people that use it every day. Trying to find an angle beyond, "I don't like Steam for a nonsensical reason and other people shouldn't like it either!" I responded to your post since you asked what Steam was. If you didn't care, why ask?

Obviously you weren't actually asking a question there. So the real motivation behind my response was to continue to inform those that attempt to refute the metrics Steam does provide us as a valuable tool that, while showing an incomplete picture overall, provides insight on trends.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not important and useful.

I'd suggest we can't even assume that is true ;) We really don't have much clue what the genuine numbers of anything are regarding SotA, so far there are 116 votes in total, but if you look at the forum stats the claim there is - Members:222,495 whilst currently the 'Campaign Stats' on the main webpage says New Britannians: 219,261

Judging from forum activity, or even from the people I saw in-game, those feel rather high to me, but how accurate they really are and how they are actually reflected in terms of active (in-game and on forum) people - I have no clue at all ...

While I would love nothing more than to draw that conclusion and throw it in the face of the countless individuals that nonsensically claim Steam doesn't matter (note, everyone who says this is wrong, always) - the fact is polls of this sample size are almost completely useless. Even with a small population, a poll with this few participants can't really show you anything with any degree of certainty.

Without any numbers from Port this will be one of the biggest secrets. A secret that will never be revealed. But now we know that only 102 of the 569 Steam users that played the last 30 days are forum users that have voted. But i think the argument that Steam users are only a little part of the community is a lie.
