Just a warning after doing just a few quest (maybe even just 1 tbh) you will be tasked to go to Harvest and take a boat to an island to proceed with courage storyline.

Don't do it :D since there you will be forced to slay enemies that are way above you. I keep hearing from people how they need to grind to progress trough main story....nah you don't need to grind, you simply need to quest elsewhere first. There is TON of Tier 1 and 2 adventure zones and towns that have quests for you. One quest from Resolute will send you to Blood River which may seem like long way so you may just not do it but...do it (just take a lunar rift)! It sends you to start a second main storyline "Truth" after that just go to Solace Bridge and start third one as well. No reason why you should not do it as soon as possible. Since it will give you lot of XP and it all takes place in easy scenes.

Long story short don't just follow courage quest-line after you visit Resolute. Explore as much as you can.

And yeah when there is a siege just run trough it :D it's true thou that this is something I had to google. If you ask me that scout should tell you this as first thing, instead giving you quest to clear the siege.

I had full plate and a 2-handed sword. Level 40 in all of the basic blades skills, and still got my ass handed to me. And this is supposed to be the second place you go after Highvale Outskirts. Again, a new player isn't going to know the tricks to get through this siege, and is going to be stymied. A new player is going to follow their plot hints, and that sparkly symbol on his compass that tells him to go talk to someone in that town that's under siege.

They'll figure it out pretty quick that running straight through is instant death. ;)

Really? It's been a while, so maybe things have changed, but I don't remember having to take sneaky routes to get through a siege, I just fired off Sprint and then focus-sprinted right through the middle. I'd take a hit or three, but make it to the other side okay. And I was "escorted" the first few times, so my first time running through, I would have been the bare minimum to have to run through one. Hills siege is especially easy, there's a slightly off-center route that usually results in not even being spotted.

I am a new player too, started playing just before launch. I made it through the bridge the first time with guards' help. Even collected some free stuff from corpses hehe. Also had full plate, but with long sword and a shield. Can't remember skill levels, just remember scout offering me an escort, but i went on my own. Maybe something bugged for You, or maybe i trained more defensive skills... no idea

    Edit: typo

OK, they changed it at some point. It used to be that if you went through the center, the catapults would instantly target you for massive damage.

I think the biggest problem with sieges is the frequency. It seems like Resolute is ALWAYS under siege.

I don't really get the point of participating in the siege events. They seem more like end-game content. Unless you can pull loot rights on the cabalists, or take on 3-4 of the T5 cult mobs, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of point to participating. That's probably why newbies just see it as a hindrance to playing the game. If there was some kind of incentive for EVERYONE in the region to get involved, then they'd probably be more well received.

Reduce the re-siege time so that it feels more rewarding when a siege is defeated, and find some way to reward everyone on some level for participating. Maybe participating in ending the siege nets you a % of an XP reward for ending the siege.

Apparently. I didn't even know that was a thing. I don't think I've ever been hit by a catapult.

LOL, it's been a very long time since I went straight down the center of a siege scene. It shows you how effective that catapult deterrent was.

I just helped end the siege at Resolute. In return, I got no loot and virtually no experience, other than finishing that quest that gives the banner of sacrifice which I assume isn't repeatable.

I'm adv. level 67, and only did maybe 5% of the damage if that...so it's not like I was carrying the team lol. But my point is - what incentive do players who aren't explicitly seeking out these sieges have to participate? I basically only got wear on my gear for participating...

I was given the seige quest right after
I got out of the introduction area. I must have stumbled into a seige not knowing what it was. First, the log said this should be easy for me so I strolled up a hill and got me azzz handed to me. I was like wtf this is instant death. Then I tried to use the map to get around to the other side. Well the map is messed up too. The tracking arrow points the wrong direction and the map is offset. I’d agree it’s a bad place to drop a brand new player. They are easy for me now though as a two month player. I can’t beat them but I can easily navigate them.

Great point, and an easy fix. I'm changing the defenders display names to "Defender" right now. The change will be in with Release 53.

This info may help you: The bad guys constantly dying on the frontline are Tier 1 difficulty, while the enemies in the camp are Tier 4 and the Siege Engineers at the catapults are Tier 8. The enemies on the outside edge of the forest siege, and in the bottom of the canyon of the hills siege, are Tier 2 (to give you a better chance to skip the action if you want). Also, as said elsewhere in this thread, new/inexperienced avatars won't be sent into a siege at all.

(Most adventure scenes are Tier 1 to 5, but extra-dangerous areas can go up to 10, or higher for special bosses.)
