    Avatars,

We've had some challenges ensuring stability when supporting all of the DirectX (DX) features that the game employs. A key roadblock is supporting legacy versions of DX.

Because these problems continue to hinder development, starting in Release 42, we will be discontinuing support for DX 9. DX 11 will continue to be the core version. We are also looking into the possibility of eventually DX 12 support.

This update most likely will not affect any of you. If you have a system that runs old operating systems like Windows 98 (DX9), or video cards that do not support DX11+ at all, then the game is not going to run well (or likely at all) anyway. If you wish to still play, we highly recommend upgrading your system to support a DX11+ video card and operating system.

The game's minimum system requirements, listed in the website FAQ, will be updated upon Release 42 going live.

    Thanks,
    Berek

Great move forward. Having to support a 20 year old technology is not easy, just remember the average computer had probably 32 megs of ram for win 98. That's MEGS when most computers have 32 GIGS today.

You were lucky to have a 2 gig hard drive in 98 and today I have over 30 TB in my house.

    vs

    30,000,000,000,000

Anything that technologically ancient needs to retired. Good move!

I'll bite on Win98 ram, I think mine had 16 upgraded to 24 then 32.

Probably a bit of a stretch to say most computers have 32GB today however :p I'd guess most computers (at least gaming ones) fall in the 4GB/8GB categories.

    Still, the sentiment follows!

Well if you put together a computer right now, you would buy 32 gigs (price wise its cheap). If you put together a computer in 98, it would probably have 32 megs. I remember because I had 8 megs when win 95 rolled out which would run it (4 megs couldn't).

I would say more like 8-16gb if we talk about overall average. If the game is decently optimized, you can play any game nowadays with 8-12gb or ram, sadly, this is rare to see :D

If you buy a new comp just for gaming, no need for 32gb. I work with CG and I use 16gb, enough even if I need to work with 4k textures. Obvs, 32gb is always better but I can't find any big improvement.

Glad to see it go the way of bows, slings, and rocks when concerning the art of war. ;)

My computer will run dx11, just sota seems to bug out when I run dx11, and anything above world is super glitched. So is that bug going to be fixed for r42?

Sounds like your performance will be greatly affected, and possibly the game won't run for you. Your avatar and possessions will all still be there though, when you are able to upgrade your system to minimum requirements.

LOL, thanks for the reply, but I was just goofing around with Fionwyn and talking about me personally being "ancient". My system is cutting edge.
