A Year of Portalarium and SotA: 2013 in Review

I decided to summarize the news related to Richard Garriott, Portalarium, and Shroud of the Avatar that came out in the last year.

A year ago, the expectation was that we would the Ultimate RPG emerge as a Facebook or mobile-focused game with a heavy emphasis on social media integration. What we got, instead, was the promise of a full-fledged PC RPG, intended to be a spiritual successor to Ultima 4, Ultima 7, and Ultima Online.

A good year, in other words.

 

Excellent article! I thought December would have highlighted the Early Release more but it was only mentioned in passing almost. I figured the hugely anticipated Early Release would be a lead-in to the paragraph rather than a follow-on to the music reveal. And yes, I'm nit-picking an otherwise great write-up

 

You're probably right, and the only explanation I can really offer there is that I had just changed jobs at that point, and so didn't have nearly as much time as I would have liked to cover R1 to the depth it deserved.

Some of the news links are dead.. I clicked on Dupre's interview, and it was missing, which stopped me from checking the others, because I assumed they were all broken at that point.. would it help if I checked the others? I dig the article, and the site. I've been a Codex fan for many many years..

OH, I see what happened. That's a more different problem. I messed with permalink settings a while back, which borked the link in question. If you strip out the "2013/03/" part of the link to sota.ultimacodex.com, you'll find the article. I'm going to try and identify all such incidences and correct them in batch, but it might take some time.
