If I acquired a house and deed from another player by whatever means, and that house and deed are already established on a plot of land, as the new owner can I effectively:
    - unclaim the land which would probably remove the house
    - claim a new plot of land
    - pit the house down on that newly claimed lot?

I ask so that if someone acquires a PA deed that they can pick up and establish where they want to.

    Thanks again

You would not be able to take ownership of either deed if the deeds are associated with a lot already... they are 'physical' in-game objects that need to be traded to take ownership. Therefore, the owner could not give them to you until they release the deed from the lot.

Of course, once you have the deeds in your inventory, you can choose any open lot that fits the size of the deed.

moxiepilot. You have to actually have the deed and house in your inventory to claim it for yourself. There is a difference between someone just giving you a permission level to use their house in most ways but to own a lot and house you have to actually have them in your inventory and an empty lot to make it yours.

Yeah what I'm really aiming for is how deeds work for the owner of the deed. Can you pick up and move anytime or is it perminant residency once you pick a plot

yes you can pick up and move at anytime and there is a magic movers system in place where you can save your deco'd house layout to place a fully decorated house in another spot. No you can move around as much as you want.

edited sorry perhaps this will make more sense ;)
