I have two questions, and I can't get answers based on my own testing (low sample size).

    1) Some books you pick up in-game can be salvaged and some not, is there any logic behind why?
    2) When you salvage books is there still a chance you will get a cover pattern? Or can you only buy them now?

    Hopefully someone knows!

Book covers cannot be salvaged, and can only be purchased. This was changed when it was discovered that covers could only be salvaged from books with a value greater than zero, which none of the books placed in the world have (only a few found in chests as loot).

As far as I know, you can salvage all books except those used in quests (and the only ones I know for those are the Students of Virtue books), and maybe the ones found in Isle of Storms (New Player Guide, Dire Prophecies, etc. I havn't tried salvaging those). However, all you'll get is wood pulp.
