Armor looks more like Capcom's Megaman/Rockman design with the boots and gauntlets. Also I work with metal 5 days a week, 10 hour days, and to me it looks like the steel used to make plate in SotA is nearly half an inch thick or it's made from plastic. With these two points made I believe armor and pin head proportions have a cartoony vibe like what Blizzard dev's went for. So I to feel the same as Knightman. Yes I know. Me the player needs to understand that this is all early development. However, in turn Portalarium should understand that they're not there yet.

P.S. Hmm... Knightman with a Megaman reference. That wasn't intentional.

All they have to do is look at the equipment designs for Ultima VII and just update them for the game. Those were inspired designs.

I agree some of the armor looks cartoony in style, much like WoW. I've observed the art styles not jiving between many of the assets. Style and quality seem to vary a lot.

Besides the armor, the Lich King is another example of this. He definitely looks like he belongs in WoW. And he looks like a wraith, not a lich.

They've only just begun with the armor and clothing. Ideally they can get some backup help from crowdsourcing, or others in the field that are making them.

The selections will only increase as time goes on and assets are culled.

Feel free to links to models that may be available, out there.

We need gorgets. That guy is going to get his head chopped off.

Edit: having mail under the armor would also be a lot more realistic.

The current chainmail design is also rather ridiculous. Lots of people are going to get stabbed in the groin. Also what's going on with the back of the tunic?

Its clear 'style', but also for my taste par example the metal 'boots' looking really like 'moonboots' with ornaments, but metal-made? I really thought such 'fantasy' design isn't any more in anyones mind, but i see, it is. Sure, i would never wear such clumsy footarmor and try to walk, a char in a game can wear it and run very fast, clear.
So again, its style, but its definetely very clumsy in appearance. I never understand why fantasy design must be clumsy, bulky comparing to real, usable armor. A few 'logical' design is not a must, but its at least in my prference. If i compare to the old UO design then those was more designed for using. The designer had more thoughts about practicability?

Right now, there is a lot of discrepancy with the armors in game. Some look fantastic and some do look quite like crap.

good : skeletons, cloaks material, long sword, two handed sword
bad : founder armor, plate mail

I think part of the issue really stems from the small studio trying to do the 'end' type of work in house.. I might be mistaken, but I get the impression that the best stuff has come from sources other than the Portalarium staffers.

I'll reiterate my statement that the staff have acknowledged many QA issues and this is surely on the list of things to do.

They have also stated they are still learning the limits of details that they can allocate for items and equipment so as they start upping those limits on polygons/texture quality we WILL see dramatic improvements guaranteed.

Yeah. I mean, I'd like to see better, less "WOW-ish" armors too...

Honestly, I don't really think that historically accurate armor is likely, necessary or required, this is fantasy...

But I would like to see it be a little bit more of it's own style.

It's too cartoonish atm. Some armor looks more like NFL equipment than armor to me...

I think its sort of ridiculous to worry about anachronism in a fantasy game. Are moongates realistic? lol

I'd go with this picture for both female and male armor...(although the above picture of Brianne of Tarth is great stuff too)

Larry Elmore was under utilized (wasted) on EQ.

I liked Elmore. I think Parkinson was a better artist tho. And Brom was more stylish.

The forums just get to you after a while.

If it's not people arguing just so they don't lose an argument with preposterous words or people imagining insanely complicated future features when we can't even do the ones originally promised (Another 250,000 for horses?) then it's UO fanatics that can barely type words that want "Hardcore" pvp. I'm pretty sure all the sensible people have left at this point.

The armor should be better. It should have a consistent style that screams Ultima, like Ultima VII's items, and we should not have stuff called "Epic Plate Mail". Would be much cooler to have "Forgefiend Dragon Leather" or "Obsidian Plate" etc.

I think it's kind of silly name. Things like that, I would like something with more personality, It's ... bland atm.
