Loans do not create currency. It has to come from somewhere. If there's no money TO loan then.. no loans. Also.. need I remind everyone this is a game and not a real life simulation. There won't BE loans. While it is true you can almost mint more coin there is only finite amount of currency in existance at any one time. Not to mention the RL comparison doesn't take into account that old currency is taken out of circulation also. We're not still using bills from the 1800s for example.

In either case.. applying real world scenarios to the game when talking economics and resources is often inappropriate as many real world factors simply won't exist. Yes technically a single mine will eventually run dry.. but that could take years of heavy mining. Simulating the same thing in game if you want a mine to run dry guess what.. it's dry.. it can't respawn. The world has limited space. What are you doing to do when it runs out?

If it takes years to deplete then there's no point in making it finite. If all the mines run dry after a week of heavy mining the economy is going to be in big trouble when the game literally runs out of a resource. That's just bad design. A game world isn't nearly so large as the real world.

I also heard this talked about on some other game.
Say I go around killing chickens should they start to fear me or find some freinds to fight me?

I kinda disagree with you here, @Bowen Bloodgood, but they are mostly finicky little disagreements.

The core of my thinking is that giving us a limited number of mines, who's product IS recycleable, which DO run dry after a given period, would produce an INTERESTING variation from the infinite spawning nodes. Given that this is a video game, it is NOT POSSIBLE for this to cause some unavoidable catastrophe, since the game programmers can just swoop in and fix such if it looms and threatens. On the other hand, I don't think that making such a realistic play is somehow morally superior to the standard version, nor mandatory if SotA is to be viable as a game. It was just a thought.

That said, I'd love to see it tried. Hundreds of tricks can be employed over the life of SotA to have new mines get discovered, or become viable, or become viable again. Player driven mining, REAL mining, would be awesome to see, and help give the game a sense of history. Ultimately, every reason why doing it is unrealistic in a video game world winds up doubling as a reason why it would be possible to do, it just depends on your point of view, and whether or not you hate the idea.

Prices should inflate or deflate based on money circulation so it don't matter how much gold is mined.

I would love to see something like this make a come back in game. It doesn't have to be something a player can kill and wipe out :)

It could be a permaculture system where ever you are farming. Each hex area could contain certain amount of bees, aphids, diversity in flowers, and any number of variables which work in conjunction together. Hopefully the players could indirectly take action to adjust the system by growing certain things in certain locations within the hex. Heck if you are an evil person in game then why not be able to specialise in plants that sponsor aphids and in tern have a negative effect on the crop in that area.

Just a left field example, but I'm still waiting for stuff like this to make it into my gaming world :)
