[As Designed] Various ranged skills show as useable but are not in in range

    Title: Various ranged skills show as useable but are not in in range

    Details: Various skills will show as usable in the combat bar when a target is selected, but the player cannot use any of these skills on the target because they are not actually in range of the target to use the skill.

    Of note the Root skill does show as not usable, when the player is not in range to use the skill on the target. But will show usable when in range of the target:

    I think the ranged skills always show as usable (lit up) regardless of whether a target is selected or not / in range or not.. hence people always hitting the poor squirrel or rabbit that happened to be in range and in front of the camera controller .. and sometimes hitting a nearby mob the camera is facing that was in range — but maybe the melee skills only light up when the selected target is in range?

    Also you were in deco mode in that dungeon - maybe that is affecting what you’re used to?

    Is a skill that cannot be used on the current selected target, that is out of range, should that always show as useable?

    good question?

    i’m thinking the ranged skills are always shown usable because you can spin your camera to face something after using it and it will shoot in the direction your camera was facing and then land on whatever is in range and closest to the camera? that is my experience with ranged spells like fire arrow, etc.

    Whereas with melee skills since the distance is so small, you literally need to be kissing your opponent, and it hits instantly - the game is letting you know it won’t hit anything to help you?

    The Root skill is an Earth Magic skill and shows range. This is not a melee skill.

    Searing Ray is a Sun Magic Skill and does not show range. This is not a melee skill.

    Sorry what i meant by melee was that the target needs to be a certain distance from the player and is instant cast - whereas something like fire arrow has a travel time and can be fired off and then you can spin the camera and if something is in range, it hits.

    It should be noted that these skills can hit stealthed targets. If they deactivated when nothing is in range they would act as proximity indicators for concealed players.

    also, those skills can be used to target, say, gate switches, though i think you have to be in free camera mode to do that. those won't show as targets.

    Ok then what is the specific criteria for when a skill should show a range (or not)?

    When I turn the camera away from a valid target all of these skills show available to use. Animal Charm and and Root show as not available.

    That looks correct. Gust is always available (for Gustball games), and Searing Ray will auto-target whatever is most close and in front of the camera.
