    Dear Serenite,

Ironhall would like to come again for an official IC visit. We had a lovely time this week with our ic/ooc visit, but we'd like to come again on Sunday Night, fully IC. I will have Baene or Nir post up an IC request if the time works for you.

Will 6 to 8 pm CST work on a Sunday Night? If there another night your Duke holds court that would be better? If so we can come on your Court Night.

    Lara/Larawyn

Apologies for the delay in a proper response. Did someone contact you in-game to confirm something we are planning at 6pm CST?

Survivors from the war between the humans and kobolds flood into Ironhall. Hollis Nirantae appeals to Baene Thorrstad. "We must do something to help these people." His reply is as expected, "I am helping them, I'm killing Kobolds." I fear that this was not what the gentle hearted Queen had in mind as she stared up at the great warrior with frustration. "I was thinking more of feeding them Jarl!". Larawyn was quick to point out, "We don't have enough food to feed them with, unless you've not noticed the burned fields that litter our lands." But Hollis had been in Novia for generations longer then the two viking avatars and she had a solution. "We must take a ship to Serenite and appeal to Duke William, he will surely help." From the glowering look on Baene's face, it was obvious the powerful Jarl was not in mind to ask for charity, ever. Larawyn laid a gentle hand on her husbands arm. "We can do this favor for our neighbor who shares land with us.", making it clear that Baene was being asked to do a favor, and not the one asking for charity of a Noble Duke not his Lord.

At 6 pm today we will be heading down to the Player Owned Town of Serenite to role-play out this at the Dukes court. All are requested to join us. You will need at least one teleport scroll and one recall scroll.

Hi! I attended the session tonight, it was interesting. I missed the first part (court?) but had fun chatting at the party afterward. Later some people went behind closed doors to role play or something, but it was private...? Not sure if this event was open to all, but it was a little weird the way a group broke off and wanted to roleplay by themselves. Is there a standard way to handle things like that, where groups break off, or does that just mean the public part of it was over?

Anyways, look forward to more RP events!

I really want to give you a good answer here, but I've seen that sort of thing before in other games. Unfortunately, anything I mention as a possible reason would seem like I'm casting aspersions towards people I haven't met, and that would be unfair. However, in my own experience in other games' RP communities, I have encountered people who:
    • RP as VIPs or are guild leaders wanting to create grand storyliness with preambles leading to conflict and segregate themselves from the general lot in order to engage in that RP
    • are RP snobs that form cliques among those whose styles are not more casual when it comes to the RP
    • have a hard time reading through everyone's text and want to "filter out" extraneous voices that are distracting
    • are friends just wanting to hang out together
My advice to you is to either make yourself "known" through these events without godmoding (http://forumroleplay.com/roleplay-guides/bad-roleplay/), find a plausible way to insinuate yourself into that RP that seems closed off to you, and stay true to your character (i.e. if you're playing a "plebeian", then don't expect to be rubbing shoulders with "nobility"). Think of it as RP is "social PVP". It's like junior high and high school all over again. Staying true to your character and your character's backstory will insulate you from any potential RP snobbery.

I actually get the above things! But this was listed as a public event, so didn't understand when the group segregated. I'm not mad that I didn't get to participate! :) I'm just wondering if, in the future, there's a public event, some parties involved would "stay behind" to "tend to the nobodies"; this could have good RP possibilities too! Having to explain to an "outsider" why a group is privately meeting, expressing their own thoughts about the political stuff going on...
I hear you...I tried to interject some stuff about being "from the west" (Brittany) sent to "observe" the goings on. I don't think it got much traction. :p

@mercster, I was at the Serenite Court but had to leave before the later RP took place. But this connection is relatively new and the kinks are being worked out. I know that I left when there was a "party" after the Court service, so it was likely that there were tons of people there and the RP was filtering that out. Maybe consider sending a message to the leads through here to let them know you'd like to take part? Just a thought. I don't believe it was anything nefarious - things like this tend to be flubs on someone's part, not something intentional. I know I can speak for my guild in that we like to be a part of stories and inclusive. I mean, heck, we took in Kobolds!

Haha...indeed, I don't think anything nefarious went on, it was just confusing. Although I am a writer and have a long history with role-play, I am unfamiliar with it in this context and am just wondering how it "works". I can understand that letting it be a "free for all" where people can drop in and start participating may not be...fruitful. Apparently you kinda have to "sign up". I'll keep this in mind in the future!

@mercster I would like to apologize for our side of the responsibility. I did not realize that those of us who went off to speak in private were the only other role players there. If I had known, I would have simply insisted that we remain in the room and ask for quiet instead. As it was, I did not want to interrupt the rest of the role play that I saw going on, and felt it would be easier to have our conversation in a quieter place.

Again, my apologies for not reading the situation well enough. I come from a role play community where everyone is a role player (it was the only reason for even being there) and it did not click for me that the other 5-10 people there would not continue their role play. It may take me some to get used to, but I will learn the ins and outs of how it works here too, eventually.

I want to personally apologize for everyone. This was our first RP event that we invited the public and we learned a few things.

One dont walk off on guests, its rude and confusing. Especially if you are the guy who invited everyone. There was an argument escalating and William was trying to make peace. So he left to have a chat to try and figure out the issue.

Two the zone was not allowing more people inside. Now I have been in other zones like pvp events where there are like 60 people in a zone. We had maybe thirty and it was at the limit. Some people couldnt make it inside.

Three have escorts in the zone show people the RP event so they arent lost.

Four start the event at least 15 minutes late to avoid stragglers from interrupting.

We started court on time and it went without a hitch but only like 20 people got to see it. So we all learn from our mistakes, next time we will adjust so we avoid the issues we encountered.

I want to thank everyone for participating it was an honor to have hosted this for you all.

I also want to give special thanks for @Qwark Graeme for creating this tradition for us.

Ohh no apologies, people...I was one of the stragglers and I apologize if I interrupted. I don't think I went into God mode; I tried to riff a little and say I was sent from Brittany to "observe". It may have been entirely inappropriate, I don't know the backstory. At any rate, the RP community is in it's infancy and it's obvious things won't go perfectly! I thank you guys for your effort and REALLY want you to be successful in this game! I wasn't upset, just curious and a little confused. :)

As one of those in the 'split off' group... it was in no way meant nefariously or to be exclusionary. If anything, it was intended as the opposite... we had business to talk about, and didn't want to interrupt the party that was going on. It was, also, a little difficult to try and talk business in such a crowd. We were a little late arriving, which is why we didn't just handle it in the actual court. But we all learned from the experience, and it will work better in the future!
