Assuming the meat comes from mob carcasses, and all else bought at NPC prices, the cost to produce 10 units of bacon is 325gp. It's a tier 0(?) food that gives a 20 minute health only buff. In the current market, I can sell 10 units of a 2-hour health+focus buff food (non-Obsidian mob based) for 480gp. See how the bacon recipe is a bit ridiculous? It's only going to be made for the initial crafting xp hit.

If this is meant to be actually used, one of more of the follwoing needs to happen:
Radically reduce the cost of ingredients (hint: bacon cooks in its own grease)
    Increase units produced per input
Make it an ingredient in something worth having
Dramatically increase buff benefits, e.g., put it on 2 hour tier, since it can be made from combat animal mobs, just as wolf and bear recipes. This would probably require removing non-combat pigs from the game, or differentiate their meat so it would only work in the current beef/pork recipe.

I haven't slain any innocent squirrels as yet, but I can alreayd see the squirrel stew recipe is another with the same problem. No one is going to use stew ingredients on that when they could be making Obsidian or dragon stew.

None of the foods below 2 hours (wolf and lamb chops/bear steak and potatoes) are economical to make, or even useful enough to be worth making.

Perhaps you’re not expected to sell it alone and it’s a component of all the bacon wrapped items yet to be implemented!

Tru dat, but perhaps pointing out a particularly ridiculous example just introduced into the game might inspire some changes. </wishful-thinking>

The Bacon is good for beginners, it is an easy recipe.
Pecannuts can be gathered from trees and squirrels. The meat you get from the pigs. Curling Salt and Empty Glass Jar from the crafting merchant. That end up in 13 gold per portion.
Except, in Bloodriver Outskirt you can not buy Empty Glass Jar. They removed it some releases ago. And the cooking level requirement of 40 is too high. At this level one can cook Fishsoup, that has the same buff but for one hour.

So why exactly do i have the feeling that crafting and cooking for that is not really "polished" yet?

Low tier food already give smaller bonuses and we are limited with two food active buffs. Making low tier food lasting less than higher tier food is non-sensical.

I agree and think it should be reversed. The lower the bonus the longer it should last.

As a GM Cook, and someone who RP's a Cook and Tavernkeep, I must say, Cooking needs some serious love. I feel this way about every recipe!

Pls give Cooking tree some more love soon!!! If anything, a skill to produce more items would be great, given the economics of cooking ingredients.

I agree cooking and food both need to be updated one day. As mentioned lower tier food is kinda useless except for raising. Now if we had a reason to use those lower tier foods we would make them more often than just to raise. One reason would be for deco because our food table would look very awesome in deed with a bowl of deep fried spider legs on it. Nummy *licks lips but secretly gags* ;)

Displayable cooked dishes would be awesome - would add a lot to deco possibilities. Bowls of spider soup (with floating eyes) would be just the thing for the Evil Eye Tavern!

I would like to see that you freely can combine meals.
So, that you cook meat of some sort and add up to two garnish. A meal would called something like Venison Meat with Potato and Mushrooms (%basecomponent% with %garnish1% and %garnish2%).
You will have recipes for base components and the garnish. Each of it has buffs, that will add when combined to a meal with a little bonus.
At low level one may is able to cook garnish and bakery recipes at higher level you are able to cook the main component. While a cook at any level is able to combine. (level 1, level 15?)
It is similar to having a pine or mable staff, both are staff but made from different wood. That leads to different buffs.
But there should also be negative buffs that may only occur when used with the one or other component. That one needs some knowledge and not only recipes.
The free combination of meals may leads to a very long list of combinations so that out-of-game webpages may become resignated and the knowledge stays in-game.

    ----
German, because i do not know if garnish the right word for "Beilage". Other options: accompaniment, side dish, side order.
