    All,

Well, following Portalarium's recent update, it fair to say that the cat has been let out of the bag. It speaks volumes that Portalarium has been so receptive to new ideas, we would first like to thanks them immensely for this development. Effective immediately, Beran's Reach has grown from a substantial city size to the jaw dropping Metropolis size. This significant increase in currently being worked up into a suitable design that we intend to give those within New Britannia a memorable place to live in, work in, do business in and visit. This new location, wherever it may be, will be offer good opportunities from which everyone stands to be benefit.

We have a new forum area at the tavern which is being used to discuss key issues. Everyone is invited to pitch in and post their thoughts, providing crucial information that will be used to put Beran's Reach together. We value everyone's ideas, so, go for it! We have already started to form an ongoing FAQ section here, detailing some of the facts and decisions that have been made so far. This will no doubt grow extensively in the near future. We're also interested in enlisting people with specialist skills. Got skills relating to city design and planning, map design and/or UNITY? We'd like to hear for you.

Futher to this, we are beginning to take on applications for those considering to live within Beran's Reach itself. We have thrown open applications to ALL within New Britannia, in order to form an active and vibrant community. If you think you'd like to live here, we would absolutely welcome you to apply. All applications will be graded without bias, providing a fair chance for all to get involved. We realise this is early days, however we are keen to handle as much of the paperwork as early as possible. It gives everyone involved a chance to provide feedback and keeps our admins sane.

So that's it. What do you think? How do you feel the Metropolis of Beran's Reach will affect you? Post below!

    I'm all in!
I have had plans to reside somewhere near Etceter so it would be great if it was located in that area.

Also as I plan to make a career out of brewing I can keep your tavern well stocked with booze :D

Edit: Forgot to add to my app that I have a Row lot with a blue tile 4 storey row house.

Awesome news Vallas! I added it to the Player Town listing over at the caverns. http://www.thecaverns.net/Wordpress/zzzzzzz-tesstt/player-towns/

Id be very interested in adding a home there, but unless I end up with one more piece of land then I have coming now, what I have now is going out in the open world. Love seeing the Bear Tavern grow though, one of the best communities!

If you wouldn't mind popping an app in ill make sure you're updated. We'll be doing fairly regular updates, so plenty of info on the way. We're set to have a fair few discussion on what form the metropolis will take, so, would love your input. :)

    Congrats on the Metropolis!

I'd be interested in applying for a plot as I'm sure the Tavern will run a good clean city that will be very accommodating to those who live there. However, I have one very nagging question regarding player run towns.

Why should any player want to "live" in a place where they can be kicked out of on a whim? I see no safeguards or checks and balances that would prevent the controlling player of a player owned town from just one day deciding he or she wanted to shake things up by creating unfair taxes (manually collected) or outright pushing someone to the curb "just because".

As a Baron and guild leader, I would personally want more stability. I've asked this question several times in forums and the Dev Q/A thread, but to date I haven't gotten an answer. Vallas, perhaps you could find an answer for me since the devs obviously listen to you? Is there a plan to introduce some kind of systemic governance of these towns so that individuals don't get pushed around unfairly?

I'll see what I can do.

In regards to your concerns over eviction, I'm sure they're shared by many. Ultimately it's about trust, which is why it's important to choose wisely with regards to where you settled. What I can assure is that you will NEVER be evicted without good cause, and not without extensive effort to mediate issues. This is something that the High Council will discuss in depth, however that's my personal standpoint on this.

In regards to your other concerns, prior to Beran's Reach the Tavern was founded on community and fairness. I see no reason why this should change. We'll take a fair and measured approach to ensuring that the Metropolis runs effectively.

    Congrats on the upgrade.

I love the whole idea of player communities like this. I have just applied to place one of my houses that I would intend to use as a shop with supplies coming from my guild (easier to ensure it is stocked).

Also love the idea of the voluntary army.

    Thank you. Best of luck.

The following is meant to address the overall concern, it's not specifically dealing with the Bear Tavern:

Ideally, I think I'd enjoy having an unbreakable lease. Then your high council or whoever was making the final decision would always be deciding on future events, not kicking people out on a whim in real time. That way perspective citizens could weigh the risks ahead of time by, for example, saying something like this "well worst case scenario I'll be here for 2 months, if they don't renew my lease I'll still have one more month to find a new home." That seems like a reasonable approach to both "renting" and "player towns".

It would probably be best to put it all out in writing so that there was some kind of procedural process that made it difficult for people to just say "well I'm getting the shaft".

Congrats to Vallas and The Bear Tavern on reaching the Metropolis level for Beran's Reach! :D

This is actually a much more complex question than it seems, when you consider different aspects of the housing experience in SotA. What happens, for example, if a city owner just quits the game without handing over the city to someone else?

That said, I don't think this thread is the place to discuss the details of city governance, as those questions are not specific to Vallas, The Bear Tavern, or Beran's Reach. I'm not convinced it's really worth talking about that stuff at all just yet, since Portalarium hasn't release any information about governance at all. We need to see their proposal for a working system in order to offer criticism on it. :) I'm sure they appreciate the feedback to help them plan that system, but there's no need to be overly persistent about it.

We'll start a discussion on plots and lease conditions over at www.thebeartavern.org which the High Council will consider. Would be good to have your thoughts on this.

I am sure any member of the community that would actually ask this question would ever be wrongfully removed from a Player City. I'd wager to bet that many checks and balances will be put into place to assure this will never happen. The option to remove someone from a city would only be with just cause and still a lot of discussion. The benefits from being in a player city such as this one with probably more foot traffic than some of the largest NPC cities will far outweigh any concerns of being removed.
